Science very often relies on using correlation to find causation. That is why falsifiability is always a necessary component of science if you want it to be rigorous. If you make a claim, and go out and find the evidence to support it, there will still be some way to prove your claim false. Don't get me wrong, I'm not dogging on science here, as it is a very powerful methodology, but it is not a search for "truth" in the sense that a religious person searches for "truth." It is a methodology used to derive natural explanations for natural phenomena. It can produce incorrect and, more often (when talking hard sciences,) incomplete explanations. Classical mechanics (Newton's laws) are a perfect example of incomplete explanations. They were superseded by quantum mechanics and relativity. And you know what? We still use classical mechanics, because it is still valid within the bounds that people could observe things when it was developed. And you know what else? General relativity and quantum mechanics disagree once you get down to distances that are too small for us to observe with existing technology. They're incomplete explanations too, yet they work on the scales that we can observe things.
