I used to be an agnostic until my dad was diagnosed with cancer and when in the same time I was down financially. I prayed from my heart . When you pray / meditate you really MUST BELIEVE that your prayers will be listened, and they were. My dad got well and now I'm making money again. So it's up to you. If you trust God and actually believe that your prayers will work, there is a big chance they will.

That's right. You don't need to demand God anything. You just need to put your trust in Him and believe that He will do the right thing. After all, who are we, humans, to question God's actions? We don't even fully understand how our brains work, let alone how God thinks. Even if things will not turn the way you wanted, there is ALWAYS something that God gives instead (like a lesson, new opportunity etc), you just need to see the bigger picture.
