Fun fact: here in 'murrcuh, you can indeed buy a fully-automatic weapon. The biggest barrier for most people would be the price, though, since you can only buy autos that are registered before a certain date in 1989, so all the conversion kits and guns you can get cost in the 5 digits due to scarcity. There's also like a 500-dollar fee and you need to pass a background check but that's not a big deal comparatively

It's funny because while you may need a permit there, in Texas there is an activist group called Open Carry Texas. Last year they were able to get "permitted open carry" passed and this year are fighting for "constitutional carry" meaning if you pass the background check to buy a pistol, you can carry a pistol.
I carry despite not having a permit, but I'd rather be doing it legally.

I work in the judiciary branch wer and often carry a much bigger one on my belt, no judge ever said a thing.
On banks, when the metal detector catches my knife i only put it with the cellphone in the proper space, the guard unlocks the door and i can pick it and return to may belt, inside the bank. No one bats an eye.

There is difference between the right to own and right to carry. Anyone over 18 can buy any knife in any Euro country. However few countries allow their citizens to carry any kind of weapon, including knives, and only in particular circumstances.
