I remember being evaluated on those once, could not rotate a puzzle/blocks in my mind to visualize a different arrangement if I tried, I couldn't get a solid image to stick, and I couldn't manipulate it to view what an arrangement of blocks would look like arranged a different way without physically doing so.

But for everything verbal and such it was alright, but I still suspect this is why I'm shit at math, I can't do mental math, I can visualize but only in general forms and varying clarity, never something that stays solid and stuck in my head though, never able to reorient an image or see how something would look clearly without drawing it down on paper first or acting on it physically like the set of blocks, never able to hold a changing equation in my head and keep it together in order to find the answer, it had to always be done on paper, I wonder why. Anyone else like this?

OP, your results aren't indicative of a IQ test. They are a combination of tests of over the course of several hours, but the problem is they compare you to the results of a scale of people that sat down for one test only and got paid for it.

Basically, it's apples to oranges, unless you've just take the WAIS-IV and nothing else, which it looks like it isn't the case.

When I was six, I sat down for the WCIS, the gold standard of IQ tests, and scored around the 62 percentile. I had a learning disability that affected a few areas so when I was 12 or so a sat down for pretty much the same thing you did, and ended up getting low scores across the board and a terribly low IQ score.

I'm twenty five now and mostly have been a NEET since high school. I recently taken the Mensa version of the Raven Progressive and scored around 118 in IQ, which is about the 88 percentile. By the way, they did a raven progressive test when I was 12 as well, and I was in the 37th percentile then...

My point is, your fluid intelligence likely hasn't changed much, but the way the test your IQ in clinical situations is flawed and it can be across the board. The repeatability of the tests only count when they are doing the initial sample.

You can test your scores independently and see what you come up with. For example, number recall is simple to test and you can do it online. The average person would can repeat 7-9 numbers read aloud to them.

I believe the General Ability Index is basically the WAIS version of IQ, but I would have to look into it. You see that your Matrix Reasoning is in the 2nd percentile? That's a measure of fluid IQ and you can find a few test online that will give you a rough idea of if that is accurate or not.

That's entirely possible. IQ at a base level seems to be your ability to learn quickly. They usually test this, outside of culture/knowledge based intelligence tests, by having you associate abstract patterns together. Someone could do well on those types of tests but have some impairment that makes them terrible at math.

Even without impairment, someone could score poorly on culture/knowledge based IQ testing, but actually have a high fluid intelligence. This could easily affect math skill. Say if a kid has low agreeableness and refuses to do school work, despite being bright. The kid could learn math quickly, but hasn't and will never develop an ability to do so unless they want to.

It's more a test for working memory which is correlated with fluid intelligence. It assumes that the person being tested isn't trained in any memory techniques. This is also the reason why phone numbers are seven digits long and I think even being able to recall nine digits on these types of tests is above average. I remember doing quite well on the number recall part, but there's another test where you have to reverse the order and say them aloud. That part fucked my shit up.

If you wanted to see if you have a good working memory, or have unknowingly picked up a technique that helps you recall numbers well, I suggest you try other types of working memory games and see how you do. Dual-N-Back is a big one that is thrown around with people 'trying' to improve their IQ scores.

The commonality of crystallized IQ tests really bothers me. Define "doing nothing". If you're like me, you still study, you debate on the internet, you research things. That isn't being mentally inactive. What we lack is useful life skills and desirable skills to employers, which is different from genuinely being stupid.

While I'm sure lacking a proper education has negatively impacted my potential, I am definitely smarter than the vast majority of people. I'm not saying that to be arrogant, because everyone I know says the same thing about me. I'm not delusional in the sense that I know I'm not a top level genius, but it doesn't take much to be the smartest person out of 100 random people. Most people are just really, really dumb rather than you or I being exceptional.

I guess my point is that while it was probably possible for both of us to be more intelligent if we had properly applied ourselves, I don't think it would be that drastically different. Once I asked a psychiatrist for an example of improvement, particularly on the attention span part which I fucking hate. They said that they've seen serious improvement once when someone changed their jobs and went to be a full time simultaneous translator. Scores shot up.

Neuroplasticity is a real thing. To the best of my knowledge the only thing that truly permanently harms brains is alcohol/drugs (and even then the brain can recover). However other things can help but only on particular tasks.

Do something with your life though. You'll feel better. Maybe I'll take my own advice.

Thought I'd chime in. You can improve attention, effort, and the amount of knowledge you hold. That would would improve a crystallized IQ test, and to some small extent, a fluid IQ test, but there's no convincing evidence you can make your brain work faster or increase your working memory.

This matters because crystallized intelligence is what you gather across time, but you'll always be limited to the speed of how fast you can gather it. I should also mention that such speed usually goes down as you age into your late twenties and beyond, but the decrease can be limited by working out, which allows your brain more oxygen.

If you wanted to improve how well you do in life, improve your consciousness. Personality changes can have great effects on where you'll end up.

Also those who were educated in Asia score much better on the processing sections because of how education works there. Crystallized intelligence is just a knowledge poll, so it depends on what you want to do with it. You may want to increase the way people perceive your intelligence or just increase your scores of intelligence in the narrow areas of crystallized IQ tests.

If it's the latter, then you just pick out areas you are weak in, say math or word definitions, and improve them. Depending on the test, you can improve quite rapidly. I did this with Wonderlic sample tests in a few days, just by getting an feel of the types of questions they were asking and getting faster in dealing with them. Basic math and understanding of word definitions help.

If you want people to think your smart, your guess is as good as mine. I suggest improving your written and oral expression, but you may just want to improve your personality which will give you the illusion of intelligence. Consciousness will help greatly, and lower levels of agreeableness may help you become more persuasive.

Why am i so fucking dumb, honestly. My biggest thing is probably math, i would say i have like a grade 4 or 5 if that math level. Was put in special classes as a kid and it was essentially a room for kids to stay in 8 hours a day. Learning nothing, i mean i could abstract and bullshit through everything else once i hit highschool and get like 81-88% average in applied classes. Math you can't do that. Been a semi-neet since highschool, going to be 22 in about 20 days. Just worked construction labour jobs with my dad or his buddies. Applied for the military nothing came of it, scored low on the aptitude test because of getting like 2/17 math questions right (recruiter showed me the info on my test, they are not suppose to) Still passed the test and qualified but other people got put ahead.

I am thinking of applying again, it feels like my only option. Going to put much more in demand trades this time, probably Infantry, vehicle tech and army communication and information systems specialist. Don't know about the vehicle tech, you are basically a mechanic for fuck huge military vehicles. The NEET life is so soul sucking and shitty, i would rather anything than it but i can't will myself out of it. They group you based on age, sex and nationality, but even the most common IQ tests have small sample sizes. For example, OP's WAIS test only has 2,200 people for the whole sample, so it could be just a few hundred people that they compare his score to.

Don't know what you make of that, but that's what it was. I also admit blowing through the last six with typical "wtf no idea" test fatigue. I probably would have taken the full time in person, but the result probably wouldn't have been that different.
