Why are prisoners not forced to work?

You realize they sit around all day long doing nothing, creating nothing of value. The US prison population is around 6 million people. We have 6 million slave laborers ready to work!

PUT THEM TO WORK!

Work doing what exactly?
>>
>>128791991
Yeah, forced labor of the imprisoned used to be a thing, you're not some sort of genius, it was tried before and was rightly scrapped because it was a fucking logistical nightmare.
>>
>>128791991
But plenty of prisoners do work dude, like that's now license plates and whatnot are made.

>"Illegal immigrants do all the jobs regular people don't want to do, and for less money"

Prisoners would be even cheaper, illegals have no more reason to come here. Crisis solved.
>>
>>128792418
Why not just make illegal immigration a crime and enslave all illegal immigrants?

D-don't they do the first one?

And isn't there a specific clause in the amendment banning slavery that makes it legal with convicts?
>>

> Still hasn't learned his lesson about slavery

Just execute them. Fuck taking anymore chances. Just put a bullet into their dome and be down with them.

Not in the age of the assembly line.

Also do prisoners where you guys live not have to go around picking up trash in the blistering summer heat while the sheriff follows along in an air conditioned truck? Shit always cracks me up.

I know people will complain about "muh morals and ethics" but I think people on death row or serving life sentences should be allowed to volunteer for dangerous clinical medical trials/experiments. There is literally no reason besides muh morals and ethics not to do this and that becomes a not-argument if this is 100% voluntary. Offer the inmates perks like better food and entertainment if they participate. This would provide more accurate results than animal experiments plus the animals are innocent, unlike the inmates. Plus, if any of the death row/lifer inmates are serious about wanting to do something to better themselves and help society this is a very good way of doing so.
>>
There is no work they can do.

There is a reason they are in prison. Most of them have an IQ in a range where you literally can't work any job in a post-industry society.

Even if, they would then again 'steal' jobs from non-criminal people because they'd be dirt cheap labor. Creating more criminals, bad idea.

The only solution is an Unreal Tournament like deathmatch.
>It creates revenue because people watch it.
>It gets rid of most of them, so that's a plus too.
>You'll probably have to sweeten it up a little for the inmates, giving the current champion very special privileges or smthng.

NZ has public detention, not for prisoners but for people who don't pay their fines. They all meet up on a saturday morning and go out picking up litter or mowing grass verges and shit. Works well unless you happen to run the night shift in a kiwifruit place and literally every single maori you were compelled to employ has to go home at midnight to rest up for it.
Fucking marois.

See, this right here is one of those ideas that could be taken as satire like "A Modest Proposal" but you know, that's a great idea.
It satisfies the need for bloodsport and if you put in violent criminals with child-killers you might see some real outrage shit going on.

One of the best experiments with prisoners ever ---and it was decades ago,--- was to evaluate calories and weight gain.
The volunteers were given either generous doses of chocolate OR alcohol, of caloric equivalent; then switched for the alternate exposure as a self-control.
Surprisingly the alcohol group did NOT gain weight, but the chocolate group did.
No accusations of unusual punishment were ever made.
The jail rats even seemed to like it!
