as part of my line of work (not police), i had to undergo a couple of weeks physical training dealing with stuff like someone with a knife, and have mandatory refresher every 5-6 months.

Basically, we get taught to shout that there is someone with a knife - just shouting knife as loud as you can will alert others

secondly, try and get away from the person, as much distance as possible - run, if you can't run or are trapped, put physical objects in the way, chairs, tables whatever

a knife obviously causes far more damage than fists, but it also gives the knife user extra reach - if you're in a scernaio where you are are basically about to fight them, get any object in your hand and use it - you want to create distance

most people who aren't proffesionally trained in using a knife will either thrust the knife towards your stomach, or come down at you stabbing (like the shower scene in pyscho stabbing) - we get trained to block that and to disarm - whether i would remember to use it is another fucking thing, but basically if you can't block use the outside of your arms to try and stop the stabbing. however, anyone with any degree of training in knife work will soon have you dead

one thing to consider - lots of people who get stabbed die because bystanders etc think the stabbed person is already dead due to all the blood - think about it, when you donate blood you give about a pint of blood and have zero ill effects - but imagine a pint glass of blood all poured out on the floor, it would look horrific, and you'd think "ah fuck, that guy is a dead", simply isn't the case

Knives are garbage as self defense because the only way to use one is to close distance between the attacker and you, which is the exact opposite of what you need to do in that situation.

If you're really worried you can get padded cloth armored clothing. It's not too conspicuous compared to every day wear if you get it tailor made, and it will do at least a bit better of a job at stopping or snagging a knife than normal clothing will. Yeah, it's not self defence in particular that's fucked. It's the situation of firearms in self defence situations - for example, you can't own firearms with the reasoning of self defence, you need a reason (e.g, clay shooting, hunting, gun club, etc) & because you are legally required to have a gun locker, if you are in any situation where it wasn't plausible for a court to believe you accessed your weapon locker, it can poke holes in your argument (See Tony Martin case).

Self defence its self is ALRIGHT. There have only been 11 prosecutions since 1990 and one case was a guy who spotted a burglar breaking in, waited for him, beat him up, threw him in a pit and set him on fire. You could definitely kill a terrorist - and probably get awarded for it too.

Carry a telescoping baton and mace if you can't carry a gun. Situations like a madman with a knife are about getting off his radar and attacking from an advantageous position. If he does head directly for you then use the mace and the baton to create distance.

Always be careful that an attacker doesn't have a trailer who is watching his back, make sure if you're unsure wait until you are sure.

In all seriousness, I held off a knife wielding loon with my belt, and the heavy brass belt buckle on the end of it. Works good, keeps enemy beyond stab range, if they get to close a good swing will break hand bones, or knot their skull. Try it, it actually works, you just unbuckle rip out belt, wrap tongue end around hand one time, and start swinging. This is battle tested, totally legal carry weapon, and will not be questioned in a self defense event.

Are you living in a non-cucked state? Are you over 21? Take a gun safety class, a defensive shooting class, get your CCL, buy a pistol, and practice with it. If you don't want to do that, work on your situational awareness and mindset, and take some self defense classes. It's less about learning how to kick ass than it is about cultivating discipline and confidence. The more, and the more intensely you train, the less likely you are to freak if/when shit happens. The ability to maintain composure is what's going to save your ass above all else. Also, you don't have to live in perpetual paranoia, but do be prepared for the harsh realities of life, and ignore anyone cuck who tries to shame you for being "scared". They act like being suicidally naive is brave. It's not.

As far as what to do if a madman with a knife starts going off: find a hand-to-hand weapon with a greater range. If they have a small knife, find a hardwood/metal pole type object, use your range, wait for them to slash/thrust, and try to break their fucking wrist with it. Don't go for a headstrike because that will bring you too close to their range. You want to be just close enough to hit their hand/forearm at full extension. If they have a machete, find a staff/pike style weapon and do the same. If they have a gun, get the fuck away unless you're a crazy fucker who's gonna count shots and try to close the distance during a reload, but make sure you assess the skill of the aggressor before you go rushing in or you might get embarrassed.

People are not trained, and doesn't require a lot of training, modern man is breed from couches and safety, just a little introduction into reality makes a man not so easy to kill.

Sprinting is a great exercise. The health benifits are crazy, fast muscle twitch improvment, hormone rejuvination [your testosterone will go back to prime puberty years more hair aggressive, stronger etc etc etc and when you have that skill you can run very far very fast, when put up against someone who doesn't regularly train like that you have a serious advantage.
