meanwhile lands such as greece were left to their own business. they bred with who ever they wanted, practiced whatever religion they wished. which is why even if greeks were occupied by the ottomans, they were never "turkened". which is also why no land owned by the ottomans changed a lot genetically. the usual exchange of genes happened of course, but since people were not enslaved or massacred in large amounts, the gene pool was relatively untouched.
