You have to serve here. Otherwise you lose your rights as a citizen. You can get a some time off to finish your studies, but you have to serve for at least 6 months.

Caveat: I am now past the prime age of military service, so my YES answer is given with the knowledge that it won't affect me.
And also Yes to civil service, which would affect me. There's no foreseeable harm in an individual experiencing service to the greater community as a whole. I'd even add that we allow refusal of service, but those who choose that path be barred from voting or holding political office.

Why not promote community service within your local area? Not compulsory, meet and help your neighbors. Mandatory service sounds good, until you realize all of the brown skins here.
