I find that it's a stupid accolade to be proud of. Canada, as a national identity, didn't really take root until decades later, perhaps, even a century, if you want to draw the line at when your country stopped being a 'Dominion of Britain'.

America wasn't a significant power in any metric in the year 1812. The fact that we withstood TWO invasions from Britain, which was the global superpower at the time, and lived to fight another day, says more about us than them. Finally, you destroyed a building. Buildings can be replaced. But not our national identity and pride. If anything you emboldened us to sever complete relations with the U.K. and become wholly self-independent. You gave us the motivation to become better than you--which we accomplished little more than a century later.

They're a schizophrenic socio-political group. They desperately define themselves as being NOT Americans, and yet, they've effectively adopted, either conscious decision, or just geographical osmosis, almost all parts of our culture --- BUT they're NOT Americans!! Don't tell them that. They like to pretend, they're still good ol' boys, loyal to the British crown, but they share virtually nothing in common with the British, and almost everything in common with us. So they're larping as Brits essentially. Finally, they have a truly obnoxious province: Quebec that are ALSO larping as Frogs, who want nothing to do with the greater Anglo culture around them. And there's a constant conflict between these two ethnic groups. So where's their national identity? Tim Hortons and a pass time of Ice Hockey? Krispy Kreme is better, and fuck Hockey, and we have it here too, and actually better players most of the time.

tl;dr Canada is not a real country, and for that matter, so is Australia and New Zealand. All those Commonwealth countries have an inferiority complex, because they failed to leave the nest and become independent like the United States. That is the truth. Deny it all you want.
