My mom gave me the NAB (New American Bible) which was her Confirmation Bible (Catholic) so I generally use that one for personal reading, but I'm not pushy about any type. First of all, thank you for providing even more Scriptural support for the adoption of Christ by Joseph.

Second, neither verse is "lying". For one, verses do not lie, people lie. For another, the verse is referring to Mary's father, to whom Jospeh is now a son-in-law. In the original text the word: "son" does not actually appear! Anyway, why would Luke and Matthew (both working off the same source material) make a "mistake" like you are suggesting, rather than the obvious and widely accepted Marian genealogy?

Baptism, as I was taught in church is supposed to purge people of sin(although i thought a simple forgiveness prayer without water could also do that) and, historically, the reason it is used so commonly in infants is because parents want to save them in case of infant death.

Logic in the sense I'm using it is the use of known information to come to a conclusion that is not currently known for sure. And in that sense I can use known information to contradict a lot of the Bible.
