Problem is in Britain, and this is really hard for anyone is Europe or the U.S.A to understand, people DEIFY the NHS. They think it's the envy of the world and they think without it people would die on the streets. The idea of market provided healthcare is so alien to people here that the sheer mention of it causes outrage - even when you talk about other countries that are supposedly more left wing than us than us do it. You can provide universal healthcare just by changing it from state to private provision and having the state foot the cost. But it's a political football. Nothing will ever change because it's second nature for these people. Can't say I blame the public for it but it needs to check its facts.
