Biggest problem in my country, beside "brain drain" is also that college or high school diploma is much more valued then actual knowledge about your profession. Yes, but the problem is that university is advertised as the thing that everyone needs to do, even if they just want to be a code monkey or something.

Also, even the engineering courses give you little reason to care about their lessons. I was four semesters in and still hadn't seen any payoff, any real application for any of the shit that I had been learning. You start the first semester with a tour where you can see the awesome projects that higher semester students do, but even at the halfway point I never had the opportunity to lay my hands on any of that shit.
I got better educational success in terms of electronics when building Arduino shit in my spare time than I ever did at university.
The entire thing is so hilariously theoretical that it's very easy to just give up and say "fuck it" because you are learning at a pace that's a complete waste of money. And remember, going to university is fucking expensive even without Murrica-tier prices.

University is a hostile environment for anyone who wants to learn shit that's got some relation to reality. It's good for scientists, who mostly do theoretical stuff anyway, and for liberal artists who spend all of their time up their asses. For engineering it is necessary due to the amount of education required, but it's actually structured very badly.
Doesn't help that, at least in my case, we were outright told that the first two semesters were made as shit as possible to discourage students, to the point that vital basic first semester shit was put into the third semester.
(The rationale here is that there's no NC, so there's too many people to get all the way to the bachelor)
