The logic is undeniable.

Also, there was a nuclear powered merchant vessel in the 60's from the US called USA Savanah. It was more a cruise ship than merchant so it didn't have as much cargo space, and pretty oil crisis it wasn't cost effective. But after the oil price skyrocketed it would have been competitive if it where in service. And if it where optimized for space and benefited from economyou of scale it could be competitive today as well.

Finally an intelligent post about the real causes of pollution. BTW - the reason why they emit so much pollution is because the fuel they use is literal oil sludge. It's so dense and crude that they literally have to heat it up inside the tank so that the engine can use it : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_oil

Meanwhile these faggots are parading around some fancy ass climate change bill as they continue to produce shit in unregulated countries dumping waste into the ocean and shipping it around the world on cancer barges.

Or they would be trying to make companies make higher quality stuff instead of cheepo garbage that breaks every other month. I swear i buy headphones every year because they break from regular use but the ones my dad had in the 70s are still fine.

Consider the following: disposal by scuttling into the Marianas Trench reduces the carbon footprint of the nuclear reactor significantly.
>>
This is a great point

outsourcing to China and other policies promoted by the Paris Accord are in fact increasing the amount of Carbon emissions.

The only way to actually decrease carbon emissions would be for western populations to domestically produce their own energy and do so in a way that funded technological improvement.

But you can't really do that when your entire economy is based on outsourcing every job possible to Chinese sweatshop labor.

So yet again Globalists find themselves in a pickle

If they support globalism that means supporting more carbon emissions from asia and CHina

They they reject globalism and try to limit carbon emissions they aren't being very good globalists/neoliberals since domestic protectionism raises wages for labor(which is bad)

They're in a lose/lose situation.

Run the numbers yourself w.r.t to what global production and shipping does to the environment.
(((I'll wait)))

Also, w.r.t to cars, you fail to acknowledge the natural efficiency baked into a competitive market : http://www.pewtrusts.org/~/media/legacy/uploadedimages/peg/publications/fact_sheet/clenfueleconomychart650jpg.jpg

There are no rules places on shot barges shipping products across the ocean thus why they use the cheapest, shittiest, and most polluting fuel they can get their hands on.

Further, as fuel prices rise, technology will naturally produce a more efficient product. You don't need subsidies or laws to force it. Just let the market sort itself out. When gas hits $5/$6 a gallon for regular unleaded, there will be solutions just as there are for any market.

Meanwhile, in mexico, they use the shittiest and cheapest cars they can find as they have no regulations. Meanwhile in India.

The US has regulations. Has been a good steward of the environment and is one of the top innovators in green technology. All we need to do is export and sell it.

Pretty much exactly what trump said in his speech and its the truth.

>>
>>128080590
What's on those ships? Is it more ships?
>>
>>128083361
It's pretty simple math

The only reason corporations outsource to China is because Chinks work for pennies and live in cages.

The only reason we have all these ships running 24/7 burning fossil fuels is because of said outsourcing.

Instead of just investing in technological improvements to cut emissions the "solution" in the Paris Agreement is to shut down even more industry in the west, which at least tries to cut emissions and move production to China where no one gives a fuck about anything especially health and safety.

>>128083678
I can't seem to find good numbers that measure it in a way that can be compared reasonably.

Regarding that chart though, it's awfully funny how closely the competitive market follows the government set fuel efficiency requirements. Passenger car requirements were 20 MPG in 1980, climbing to 27 by 1985, then staying roughly stagnant until 2011 when it jumps up to 30. Your graph goes higher than 30 and climbs before 2011, which is explained by the 2005-2011 rise in combined average car and truck average efficiency.

And yes, seeing how well regulation is working on car fuel efficiency, it sounds like it's time to regulate cargo ships.

>it's awfully funny how closely the competitive market follows the government set fuel efficiency requirements.
Who set those standards? The U.S as we always do. We are already stewards of the environment. Always have been vs. the rest of the world. Thus, we dont need to sign some foreign agreement to get our shit together. We already do and we already lead. If the rest of the world wants to follow, they can buy our tech through fair trade agreements which is what trump is saying.

I'm glad you know how to read a chart and repeat it in words ;). Our regulations work.

> And yes, seeing how well regulation is working on car fuel efficiency, it sounds like it's time to regulate cargo ships.

Seems like you're starting to get it... Also, you can see why globalization is a dumb fucking inefficient idea and is at the heart of pollution.
>>
>>128079232
When talking about marine propulsion you gotta keep in mind that energy requirements increase dramatically with speed. A cargo ship doesn't need to go 35+ knots so a huge reactor like on carriers would be useless on them. I'm fairly certain once it becomes economically viable we'll start seeing nuclear cargos show up.
>>
>>128085746
That's the dumb part. Nuclear is actually competitive with fossil fuels on cost and capacity. It actually stands a chance of breaking our dependency on coal. Solar and wind are excellent auxiliary power sources but they'll never power a significant portion of the grid.
>>
>>128078282

Some things are more environmentally sustainable to produce on the other side of the world due to local sources of raw materials.

You would almost certainly still have to ship raw materials for those locally produced goods from somewhere.

I don't think you realize how many commodity mining companies were shut down in America and close by due to environmental regulations.

You mistakenly believe that raw materials are only available in regions of the planet where they are now more cheaply mined.

You're yet again deflecting from the root cause problems and solutions because you are either uneducated on them or don't want to admit that they aren't pursued due to economic not environmental reasons.

You want to play dumb just like the idiots who made the Paris Climate change bill and center on non-issues instead of the elephant in the room.

Which is fine, just don't expect informed people to believe your silly ass appeals to the environment when you don't want to address the real issues.
