Punk never was left or right. Back in the 80s it didn't even matter that much. It wasn't rare that rightwing punks hanged out with leftist punks because both had the same goal: to end the current government. People respected each other and accepted that different people have different views. Now, leftists try to claim that punk has always been left. Not only that but they don't accept other views. They rather attack or insult than respect them. Same with right wingers though. Respect your enemy.
