Put it this way: if a company is making $1,000,000/year profit and paying their people $12/hour and then the minimum wage increase goes up to $15/hour, that company isn't just going to say "oh well I was making $1,000,000 profit but now I'll only be making $820,000 profit but that's okay!" no, they'll raise the prices on whatever they're selling so that they still make that $1,000,000 profit even after they have to start paying higher wages. Which in turn means your money doesn't go as far (and also fucks over the people that were already in the upper wage bracket before the wage increase since now they effectively have less buying power as well)

Maybe the milk you buy goes from $3.50 per 1L to $3.74 per 1L, and the chicken you buy goes from $4/lb to $4.39/lb, so on and so forth. It'll add up to the point where your raise won't really get you much more. Not to mention the eventual real estate/rental price increase.
