Of course there is a difference between left wing and liberalism. Real (captitalistic) Liberalism is infact part of the right wing. What you see as the left are more socialists with some liberal elements

The triumph of liberalism has been so complete that it's practically meaningless today. The entire political spectrum is liberal.

For example, there's a party in Poland, that is socially very conservative, and economically very socialist. And they're being called "far right", even though their economic policy (which is arguably more important) is completely socialist.

It is confusing. A classical liberal would support freedom of speech. A modern liberal would support hate speech laws. The term liberal, in my opinion, should not be used for modern liberals and they should be called progressives.
