If you ever wondered what is it that attracts academics, artists, etc. to left-wing ideals, then this is a great book to read. Milosz has first hand experience with this, being a Polack. If more people read this book on /pol/ I could see terms like Ketman and murti bing pill taking off, actually.

Anyway, I'd implore any /pol/ack to explore various essays and literature that was produced in the former eastern bloc, particularly by Poles, Hungarians, and to a lesser extent, Czechs, because a decent deal of it is intellectual and deals with criticisms of communism.

For those with Audible looking for an informative listen (or you can just pick up the book - just saying it's on audible), I recommend The Unnecessary War. It's really good at getting down to truths that aren't popularly known nowadays. Churchill was quite the cunt and did a lot of things that hurt Britain in the long run.

My only qualms with this book is the author is a bit biased against Hitler and National Socialists. But besides that it's still pretty objective and goes to show how both WW1 & WW2 were ultimately unnecessary and contributed to the onset of the suicide of the West.

We're not done yet, but WW1 & WW2 were brutal and the after effects have greatly damage our people and cultures.

Figures. This is my first book I've dove into from him, and everything seemed pretty normal and fair as far as insults go, but introducing Hitler and the NSDAP had a distinctly different tone to me. Obviously he is still pretty level-headed in general, great at backing up what he's saying with sources and direct quotes from important people, etc. I like the book and I feel the same pain that we all do from our bother wars.

At least he's not as bad as Kershaw. I've read a few of his (such as Hubris & Nemesis) and when I started reading "The End" I couldn't do anymore of it. "Sheesh why'd they keep fighting so hard even when the tides had turned?? indoctrination is powerful!" is the vibe I got. And while he did obviously know that the struggle against Bolshevism was an ideological drive, it sounded to me like he just couldn't get why they kept fighting. Maybe I'm wrong because I got annoyed and gave up on the book. Maybe it gets better but idk.

tl;dr

Really easy in today's society to talk shit about the National Socialists. And obviously those who would defend them have to think about their careers as you said. :/
