1. Hitler lived for Germany. After losing so much, could anyone continue on?
2. Hitler may have died, but he died a hero, fallen on his own sword fighting against the world. Hitler created a legend. Hitler was so interested in how the Reich would be perceived by posterity that he built all his buildings so they would leave beautiful ruins. Hitler's death is necessary for his legend. If he were to be discovered trying to escape, and thrown in a kangaroo court it would be such an embarrassment, not just to him, but to all of Germany. His status did not allow such a risk.
3. If he escaped, he would have to face vindictiveness from, particularly, the aristocratic elements of the government who escaped with him and were fairweather friends at best. All it would take is one angry Von to broker a deal with the FBI to turn Hitler over in exchange for immunity. Hitler would never be able to live a comfortable life.
4. Hitler was borderline physically disabled in his later years. He wouldn't be able to survive very long anyways, especially not in hiding, and being transported place to place, and without medical care.
