The rich are responsible for your luxurious lifestyle you're currently living. Taxing the rich would mean less people would strive for success, which would again make the country dirt poor. The goverment isnt a magic entity that can fix all your problems, it maintains public services and the wellbeing of its people, but only if there are successful people that can build up the country and give the goverment money through taxes.
