In Japan children are forced to exercise at least twice a day on week days as well as sports on weekends. Their posture is corrected if they show any sign of slouching and they are for the most part all extremely healthy. I remember Western countries used to enforce health standards in children, but somewhere along the line we got soft and white people are falling behind as a result.

The military is like a sharpening tool, and some people are too soft for it. It's hard to come out of military service unscathed somehow, either physically or mentally. The strong ones don't become bitter about it and retain the discipline they learn in service. My family is littered with military vets who live long lives, healthy and independent into old age. If you see a lot of feebleness in your family, then probably avoid it unless you really believe you're an exception.
