This was true before the internet connected you to billions of people from all across the world.

Before the internet and modern communication networks, you had to be in a city to be exposed to people, information, and modernity.

Not anymore.
Now cities are hive minded pressure pots that yield conformity. The city doesn't make people smart. The jobs attract smart people and smart transplants make the statistics look as though the city makes people smart.

If the jobs leave, which they are, so do the smart people. A city is nothing more than a collection, most often, of transplants.

Over time, people become hive minded as they don't get out of the city and begin to think the city is the world. Some of the dumbest people outside of their jobs are typically found in cities.

The city is an artificial pressure pot that yields conformity. It is an echo chamber. It has so much to offer that people rarely leave it. Thus, overtime they become collectivist brainwashed pleb tier zealots. Furthermore, the city and its ideology carry so much weight that rarely do people break out and challenge it. Cities go through cycles for this reason.. Upon being new it invites and attracts tons of people from all over. The city embodies a diverse collection of ideas and people. Over time, diversity yields and the city centers on an outdated ideology + degrades in way of offerings... The city dies.. Smart monied people leave.. The city is stripped down bare. Repeat (city is then built back up anew).
