Good for Trump. He is turning out to be a great president, way better than anyone expected. This climate change issue distracts from the real issue: getting NATO to pay for its own security with the lives of European people.

I want Europeans to sign up to die for their own security. When these countries see their young men fed to a human disposal machine, they will not complain about climate change.

We put a knife in their backs and make them march into war. We do not listen to their complains when they say their air smells bad.

Why? Because Americans are sick of Europeans and they are sick of NATO.

OP, let me tell you what you can do with your crisis narrative.

Right. European leaders are SO concerned about global warming they are letting in endless millions of Africans, and their huge birthrates, from nations where they barely use any resources, to this continent where they all use as much as we do and we will need millions of houses, roads etc. They don't give a single flying fuck about the environment, and neither do most people who claim to be 'green' but support open borders and feeding Africa, they want power and money and this is just another method to get both, and Trump is smart enough to see through it.

The only danger to the human race is the no borders campaign. you don't expect me to buy that book, right?
But let's just take the first person mentioned in the description: Edward Wegman and the Hockeystick.

His claim to fame on this is the "Wegman Report" about the McKitrick & McIntyre criticism of MBH. A large part of the fame unfortunately comes from the fact that big parts of the report were plagirized, in part from Wikipedia.
But the report was for the most part irrelevant event at the time of publication because, contrary to what the description claims, other reconstructions confirmed the Hockeystick thesis of unprecedented warming since at least the last 1,000 years.

scientists are LITERALLY arrogant elitist losers

Scientists get paid to study the climate because they have tricked people into thinking the climate is in crisis. They are clever tricksters who are concerned about getting paid. Trust them all you want, but don't come here and tell us they aren't tricking you.

We can see they are tricking you. Now go think about it for a while and ask yourself this question: "are scientists really, truly trustworthy, or do they have their own agenda?"

Have you heard of the "principal-agent problem"?

Scientists create an artificial scarcity of climate data in order to drive up the cost of collecting it and create artificial demand by bullying people.

They claim you lack morality because you "don't care about the environment". It is bullying.

It is nothing but bullying.

Let me explain this. Calling out your bullshit does not make me immoral. It makes you a loud jerk. It means you are just going around bothering people and telling them they are bad people because they don't "care about the environment".

In reality, you just want to make sure their future cash flows are protected. It is a scam.

Now shut up and get out.

Why do SJWs feel so strongly about climate change? I don't get it. Do they push it really hard in college or something?

It doesn't take a genius to see that there are much bigger issues in the world right now than climate change. I always liked what Trump said, actually. "I believe in clean air and clean water." I think that's a good stance to take given the polarization on the issue. We can make an effort to have a more healthy environment without taxing the shit out of everybody. I think providing incentives is a better idea.

If climate change is as pressing an issue as we are led to believe, we need to open up the nuke silos right now and threaten anyone who doesn't get their emissions in line with what they need to be.
If climate change is not as pressing as we have been led to believe, we need to stop letting "people" scam western nations with taxes while moving factories overseas to places with no pollution controls.

Whether you believe climate change is a pressing issue or not is irrelevant, the way that things are being done now is stupid in either scenario.

by pointing at people and screaming, "YOU'RE HARMING THE ENVIRONMENT" they use the argument from authority https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Argument_from_authority to get people to accept MORAL DIRECTION from CLIMATE CHANGE SCIENTISTS

this is where SJWs get their moral direction

it is just like Christians complaining that you are immoral if you don't believe in God, but in this case, God has been replaced with "the environment" and the government pays a select group of "climate authorities" to collect data.

Climate change is a scam intended to defraud taxpayers. The climate is always changing. There is no basis for alarmism when climate scientists are erecting barriers to collecting climate data.

If you want proof that scientists are erecting barriers to climate data, just look at the material they produce. They want to discourage study of the data and encourage their alarmist interpretations of it. They will even go so far as to misrepresent data collected from multiple sources by making it appear that it comes from a single source.

It isn't science; it is a fraud and a scam and it harms the reputation of real scientists by associating them with a political issue.

In reality there are no "scientist-activists". When you compromise your scientific integrity with activism, you lose your right to play the role of scientist. An activist is not a scientist.

The activist-scientists are not scientists.

My general response is this:
Firstly there are many people on that list who have no expertise in climatology (economists, particle physicists, politicians(?).
Of the actual climatologists/meteorologists, it's the usual suspects every skeptic loves to quote (Lindzen, Svensmark, Shaviv,...).
But I really have to wonder over some of them. Why is Sami Solanki in this list for instance? He explicitly comes to the conclusion that the sun has contributed "less than 30%" of the atmospheric warming since 1970.

The west lacks fossil fuels but has all the manufacturing and money.

The "war" against climate change is actually a war against buying fuel from outside the west and forcing everyone to use more expensive domestically produced fuel.

Imagine if the developing world had all the fuel, money and young people? Western manufacturing would quickly move there and the west would collapse.

Climate change is happening but it will not be stopped.

All the climate change alarmism is based on predictions. If you're saying predictions shouldn't be the focus, you're going against the political movement.

As for the "conspiracy" the only reason it isn't one is it's not secret. A conspiracy has to be secret, but climate change research is openly funded by political groups. Most of academia is open and proud of how it factors politics into management decisions. Go talk to any scientist and they'll agree the easy way to get funding for their research is to come up with a story that panders to big donors. Big donors include businesses who profit from the climate change movement.

>>127344156
that's way too long but the general gist of it seems to be that data correction is used as a tool to fake your observations for a predetermined outcome.
Besides being a conspiracy as well, it's also something that can only come from someone who doesn't know anything about remote sensing. Raw data in remote sensing is pretty much always completely useless. Even very simple things like imagery in the visible spectrum has to undergo extensive correction for instrumental errors and atmospheric effects, same with temperature data.
Let's take an example:
One of the biggest biases is orbital drift. During the lifetime of diurnal satellites, their orbit slowly degrades which effects the local passing time during which the satellite takes a temperature reading. This creates a specific mathematical error in the temperature data, which has to be corrected for (in 2015 RSS discovered an error they made in their correction, which completely changed their temperature trends they had calculated for the lower atmosphere; pic related is the relevant paper). What's nefarious or deceiving about this, I ask you.

Besides all that, it also has to be one of the most retarded conspiracies ever, since most temperature monitoring bodies make the raw data, which is supposedly what they're trying to hide, freely available on the internet.

Okay, listened to the first minute, but I'll listen to the rest later. You do realise that despite the fact that climate change has occurred naturally in the past, it has NEVER changed at the rate it is changing now? The opening of this whole argument seems like it's just going to conveniently ignore that fact.

Of course you can find people with contrary views in any field, but as it stands, they are by far are vastly a fringe minority in this particular issue. But here you go, deferring to pseudo-authority ONLY when it's convenient to you and corroborates with your worldview. I also can't find much about this man's credentials. Who is he exactly? The video description seems to be wanting to withhold that information. You know that I can find literally thousands of videos to the counter highlighting the problems with this strangely narrow assessment of the situation easily.

The PDF also seems to come from an organisation called 'cfact', which is described in Wikipedia as group dedicated specifically to 'advocat(ing) for free-market solutions to environmental issues', so we already know that this group is going to have a politicised bias to anything they publish. They don't seem to be an accredited peer-reviewed research group by any means. They also seem to be notable now for specialising specifically in climate denial-ism. From the looks of it, this group looks like they're specifically coming at this with an agenda.

You see, this is the phenomenon we call 'confirmation bias' right here.

the funding for climate science comes mostly from government agencies (ostensibly the EPA in the case of your own country).
Now if the scientists are in a constant effort to appeal to the relevant political power center, why didn't American and Canadian climatologists during the Bush and Harper administration suddenly reverse position and reject AGW. After all, both these administrations were hostile to action on climate change (same with the Trump administration).
How does your view about whoring climate scientists square with the fact that they have been saying more or less the same things through radically different administrations in different countries?

what you said about CO2 sequestration isn't correct either. The main process that removes CO2 from the atmosphere is chemical weathering of silica minerals (CaSiO3) and that takes on the order of 100,000 years.

If any additional CO2 is removed after 100 years or so, why was CO2 able to rise and fall with an amplitude of ~110ppm in the plot I posted?

there is evidence that the uptake of CO2 by the global ocean (which is the main carbon sink right now) is slowing. Also it was found recently that the continental soils will respond to warming as a carbon source rather than a sink, which wasn't really clear up until now.

What I said is true, and it is a serious problem.

Academic intimidation is becoming a serious problem, and it is causing academic institutions to lose their commitment to protecting the independence of scientists.

If scientists can't collect independent data, then they will have to choose between their own integrity and their career. This is a horrible choice; it will be the death of the academic system.

what are you talking about? We can observe the relationship between, for example, the alkenone unsaturation index or TEX86 and the sea surface temperature in the real world right now. This isn't supposition, it isn't a model, it comes down to observation and a simple math exercise.
Additionally, if you take a multi-proxy approach instead of relying solely on a single proxy for your reconstruction, you can remove a great deal of uncertainty, since the probability of several proxies coming to the same conclusion by coincidence sinks exponentially with every new proxy used.

If you heard about temperature proxies for the first time right now, why do you feel confident enough to dismiss it with stuff you pulled out of your ass?

Yes, but as I've repeatedly said, it's never changed at the RATE it's changing now. Natural climate change is indeed a thing, but to dismiss human impact is laughable.

m8, I don't think you realise just how big the lobbying groups for fossil fuels actually are in the US. You keep trying to push climate change as some kind of 'liberal conspiracy' without explaining how such a conspiracy would be beneficial to any party, but it's climate denialism which is the real conspiracy. Like the anti-vaxxers, it's not pushed by any non-partisan accredited peer-reviewed scientific community, just fringe lunatics with an agenda, and you can actually trace the very simple logic behind pushing such a conspiracy, retaining the interest of corporate monopolies.

Clearly though, you're too far down this particular rabbit, but I fail to see why THIS is the hill you're so keen to die on. You honestly should look into flat-Earthism. If you're capable of dismissing every piece of you don't particularly like as a conspiracy, flat-Earthism is not that big of leap.

The EPA head during Bush's second term:
>Johnson began working at the EPA in 1979.
Bush put the EPA in the hands of an insider, which wouldn't cause a dramatic reversal of existing policy. The administrator from 2001-3, Christine Todd Whitman, has the following in her wikipedia page:
>In 2001, the EPA produced a report detailing the expected effects of global warming in each state in the country. President Bush dismissed the report as the work of "the bureaucracy."
>On June 27, 2003, after having several public conflicts with the Bush administration, Whitman resigned.
The biggest conflict was over Dick Cheney's push for a loosening of pollution controls.

There was no major purge and no major push to change financing. Bush focused on issues other than global warming and his election was largely irrelevant to what was happening in academia. The political-industrial machines on the Democrat side remained in place, and universities have relied primarily on the Democrats since the 60's. Industrial financiers back politicians they want, who proceed to channel government spending, which is mainly Congress's responsibility. At the time, Congress was pretty evenly divided with a slight Republican lead. That meant they'd be struggling over top priority issues and wouldn't be able to make radical changes over low priority ones like global warming.

Keep in mind that the relevant political power center is not the one that won the last election, but rather the one that actually spends money in the niche. Republicans just don't care enough to take strong action on academia.

I'm not familiar with Canada's situation, but they're perceived as being much more leftist than we are in general.

>consensus

The work of science has nothing to do with consensus; consensus is the business of politics. Science, on the contrary, requires only one investigator who happens to be right, which means that he or she has results that are verifiable by reference to the real world. In science belief is irrelevant. What is relevant is reproducible results. The greatest scientists in history are great precisely because they broke with dogma.

Consensus is invoked only in situations where the science is not solid enough. Nobody says the consensus of scientists agrees that E = mc2. Nobody says the consensus is that the sun is 93 million miles away.

the problem is that there is no real precedent for the current rate of carbon injection in the geologic record.
The only thing that comes close is the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum. It was a short interval 55 million years ago when an amount of carbon, roughly equivalent to all the worlds oil reserves was injected into the atmosphere.

Around that time, ocean sediments suddenly turned black (from the clay content due to acidification), there is evidence for massively increased precipitation, temperature rose by ~5°C, insect herbivory increased sharply, extinction of several algae genera, local extinction of plant species, terrestrial ecosystems getting kicked around with massive migration of mammals and so on.

That took place with a rate of carbon injection that is LOWER than the one we have today. With an unprecedented situation like that, it's quite hard to make predictions about the long-term response of the biosphere
>>
>>127349927
>the current climate change isn't man-made

There has always been man-made climate change as long as there have been men, it is called breathing. When you breathe, you change the chemical composition of the air in your environment.

You are trying to provoke me into saying something that isn't true. If you are breathing, then you are currently contributing to climate change. You are turning oxygen into CO2.

It is man-made climate change.
>>
Clean, safe, reasonably cheap nuclear power is the ultimate climate change fixer-upper.

Steadily funded, long term research is needed to get to that goal, but this is a goal I think could go a long way towards helping the environment.

I also think that phasing out oil and coal consuming equipment (over the long course of time) for electrical, solar, and natural gas using equipment would help a lot too.

the earliest human signal on the planetary climate actually dates back only ~5,000 years.
Breathing has absolutely nothing to do with climate because the absolute amount of carbon that is produced by humans breathing is absolutely miniscule and easily absorbed by the carbon sinks.

But setting that aside, if that isn't what you're trying to say, what IS your point?

This is simply not true. There is fabricated evidence that would support this conclusion on a NASA website.

https://climate.nasa.gov/evidence/

It is a graph fabricated from two different sources using two different methods of inferring historical temperature changes over two time periods.

The data sources are:

> Vostok ice core data/J.R. Petit et al.; NOAA Mauna Loa CO2 record

It is fabricated evidence designed to mislead the public. The line you are looking at is a visual depiction of data designed to create confusion in the viewer's mind as to the process that produced the data in the first place.

It is media that is designed to deceive, it is designed for deception. This is the USA government we are talking about here, trying to protect the jobs of scientists using resources THE TAXPAYERS PAID FOR.

no, in fact the options are so transparent it doesn't need a lot of work to figure it out.
What needs to be done is to impose a rising carbon fee on fossil fuels in the domestic mine/well or the port of entry. The fee will then be payed out to every legal citizen as a continuous dividend.
Meanwhile, governments should invest in R&D for Generation IV nuclear reactors that help to solve problems of renewable energies (such as intermittency).
And these solutions would also make sense, even if global warming wouldn't exist.

Hope only vanishes when governments decide that their short-term profits are more important than the long-term possibility of decent survival.

In that case, human civilization would be defenseless against the terrors of the Earth.
