Potential terror attacks are foiled quite regularly. The CIA have solved a couple of potential attacks in the UK in recent years due to people making journeys back and fourth from places. In the UK they seem particularly quiet about it. I can't remember what it was I saw but some Muslims had been keeping barrels of some liquid in their houses and had planned to use it on New Years eve but they were foiled without any huge amount of publicity being given to it. That wasn't so long ago.

It's the only benefit to being a police state.
