That cemetery fight is a fuckhuge ping-pong match. It usually goes like this:
>Republican Guard beats the living shit out of ISIS and captures 2 kilometers
>RC leaves to fight somewhere else
>ISIS beats the living shit out of the SAA/NDF and recaptures 1.9 out of the 2 kilometers lost
>RC comes back to stabilize the situation
>Rinse and repeat
Sometimes, the RuAF shows up as an added extra, so the RC can capture 2.1 kilometers.

And that's pretty much it.

After trusting in Allah, the soldiers of the Khilafah executed attacks on positions of Rafidi Federal Police on Corniche Street and the outskirts of the Bab al-Tawb area on the right side of Mosul.
Clashes took place in which diverse weaponry was used, resulting in burning 4 hummer vehicles and an armored vehicle, and damaging another hummer and armored vehicle, as well as killing and wounding several elements.
The apostates fled from the confrontation, carrying their killed and wounded.
The mujahidin took control over new positions and captured ghanimah of various weapons and ammunition. In the meantime, crusader coalition airplanes bombarded their withdrawing units in four strikes, we ask Allah to make it very acute among them. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all creation.

the cemetary is very huge and on several hills.
it's almost impossible to advance with vehicles there, which means it's mostly infantry vs infantry.
SAA has been trying for 3 months with heavy russian airsupport (5 strategic bombers at the same times + close airsupport warplanes ) and failed.

They can't, because the DeZ RC have bled dry and can't sustain a push or any other similar breakthrough operation. They are the only gov force there that's worth a shit, but they are too few and thus can only do so much.

The problem is that the gov is trapped there, DeZ is a one-way ticket for reinforcements, and they have too much there to just let it fall and write off the losses. So that siege will most likely last until the end of the war.

It isn't, because the ISIS is shit too. It is a solid stalemate, DeZ will only fall if the ruskies will it.

1000 men would be a massive tiebreaker there. I doubt they had 1k soldiers on any side in a single op during the last 2-3 years. Most of the fighting there is between a few dozen dudes at best.

>Can't send reinforcements to do a 1000 men push?
they can send reinforcements thru helicopters (it would take a lot of time), but does the SAA even have 1 000 men to send?
the SAA has been sending prisoners there who accepted to fight for them in exchange of liberation and conscripted random people in the besieged neighborhoods.
the manpower problem there is catastrophic because of how low it is but also because that those who die at the first line are battle hardened/elite RG soldiers and not the newbie conscripts (the SAA military efficiency decreases battle after battle).
>Be real with me, is the city done?
idk but ISIS needs it much more than before (and the SAA has never been in such disastrous situation there before now).
most of the city itself is already under ISIS control

First, YPJ won't withdraw unless SDF operation rooms allow them because they're 2nd & 3rd lines of the frontline, therefore vital.
Second, withdrawal of SDF wouldn't mean IS offensive on SAA, it would mean panic among the SDF ranks because no one expected these orders and a possible tragedy cause they'd get raped by IS regaining deserts in northern Raqqa CS. A miracle for IS.
Third, US won't allow them, and they're indirectly in charge of SDF Raqqa operation.

It's clear SAA is doing well in the Palmyra area, but doesn't it make most sense to secure the remaining West side of the country?

Only Idlib and Daara provinces remain as big areas of land with FSA control.

Assuming (Russia doesn't have much money and air offensives are stunningly expensive to wage) Putin can afford it he could have the Russian air force bomb the shit out of IS 24/7 for a while then mop up.

The first LIMFACs to sorties are fuel and ammunition. Next is aircrew rest, spare parts and maintenance.

Yes but almost all civilians live on the West of the country

Daara province in the South West borders with Jordan and that + Idlib are the only non SAA regions with civilian population.

If SAA secure Daara and Idlib regions then what pretext is left for Safe zones? No one lives in the dessert areas.

I understand the pipeline anology, but America can't really create safe zones in empty dessert.

They need Daara / Idlib for that

What is important in the Deir Ezzor area to the east? Isis is already busy with other factions, so always time to capture it later

Also east of country is easier to bomb from the air, so it should be Quick with russian air force assistance

>>air offensives are stunningly expensive to wage
>For (You).

They are stunningly expensive for anyone, you aviation-illiterate twat. Jet fuel isn't cheap and it requires trucks, pipeline or rail to transport it to operating bases. If you don't have those you are forced to fly in tankers the defuel them into tanks, bladders, tanker trucks or aircraft refuel trucks. No fuel means no sorties.

Bombs, missiles and cannon ammo are even more expensive and also heavy. So is the support equipment to handle them in bulk and to load them on the aircraft. Aircrew need oxygen so you have to have a gaseous or liquid oxygen plant and all that goes with that. Aircraft tires are expensive and wear very quickly. That's an important consideration on any deployment. You need a mobile tire shop and automobile tire equipment is not sufficient.

That's a short list. When you see anyone's aircraft dropping bombs you don't see how the many incredibly complex pieces of that puzzle work together.

Estimated Russian defense budget total is roughly 70 billion dollars. That imposes serious limits on procurement, operations and maintenance even before corruption siphons off whatever it gets.

Guided missiles lower the human cost of war and happen to be quite efficient. System cost is more than the missile or bomb and the better your systems the more effective your ordnance delivery.

You love Russia by the tone of your post and that's your duty as a Swede, but jet fuel is jet fuel and unguided bombs are still unguided bombs. Logistic rules are the same reality for anyone. Fuel doesn't move itself.

Even if your logistics labor is free, distance imposes itself on transportation. Russia can either fly from Russian bases (which it must still supply from elsewhere in the country) or much more (locally) convenient Syrian bases which are nearer the battle but further from logistics support. If your forward operating base is near the battle that greatly improve response times but operating costs skyrocket.

Take my word for absolutely nothing. Then look into it yourself.

Start with a map and some air base locations. It's fun and interesting. I spent my USAF career fixing fighters and generating sorties and am interested in all aircraft combat employment. It's a fascinating technical, logistics and military ballet.

You can estimate fuel loads per fighter. Each fighter sortie (any fighter, any air force) uses most of one fuel load and a lot more if you have to hit a tanker. (Tanker costs are additional.) A Flanker takes about 20,000lbs of internal fuel plus external load if wing and/or centerline stores are used. Max. weapons load is about 9000lbs. Nobody likes to come back with bombs on the wing (it beats the shit out of landing gear and tires) and an effective attack sortie will empty the pylons.

Ground crew, maintainers, traffic controllers, security and everyone else must be supported at bare base/Syrian base locations even if the locals feed them. They require substantial equipment and parts support to operate, maintain, repair and inspect aircraft. That means more airlift sustainment from Russia.

Arabs are untrainable. Perfectly suited to kamikaze slaughter missions but little else.

I'd bet Russian trainers are as frustrated as US/Coalition trainers. The only thing keeping casualties so low (this war takes so long beauss losses are so light) is reluctance to fight.

yes. but to fully establish whether he is a feminist, we have to establish if he menstruates. This fact, if proven, would mean that the terrorism presented by putin is very dangerous. For instance if he was menstruating at the time of being provoked, it could make him more angry.

Imagine if a menstruating feminist terrorist was driving to the shops to get more hygene products. Imagine he ran out that morning. So he is inconvenienced and angry at about this. Imagine, then that the car in which he is driving, causes vibrations to his vagina, as we know can happen.

And angry menstruating feminist terrorist like Putin, driving to the shops, could alone present significant threats to the safty of other road users. We know the car is a weapon. Deadly.

Also we have seen how vehicles are used as weapons by terrorists who do not even menstruate.
We know that Putin is making war in places where this tactic is used.

How difficult is it for people to see the danger that confronts them? People are blind. Obviously someone should take away his drivers licence before it is too late.

Assad is dividing the kurds to bring the Syrian kurds towards him and let the foreign kurds fight Erdogan.

None of my stories are specific to Syria, but I've deployed to various bases in KSA, the Emirates and to Incirlik in Turkey besides the usual NATO and Asia stations.

Setting up a bare base (basically an airfield with no or little local support specific to your airframes) today would be surprisingly familiar to someone who fought in WWII.

Random questions if anyone knows a bit about this stuff, I'm just now starting to research.

the YPG and PKK, are they basically the same? They seem to work together a lot. YPG In Syria, PKK in Turkey? Turkey is conducting airstrikes on the YPG though too, which is confusing.

Is the YPG expanding into ISIS territory just for more land/kurdish cities, or because they actively are against ISIS?

Any opinions on the possible formation of a Kurdish nation after the Syrian conflict will be over? What does Assad think of the YPG or PKK?

Perhaps good by local standards but even in their own videos they constantly make basic infantry mistakes. Spray and pray isn't effective suppressive fire when you blindly shoot into the air.

They are often physically courageous. Only a few are professionals.
Those who are will be disproportionately effective against their unprofessional opponents.

>Nah they just hate arrogant american invaders training them.

Why would you hate your trainer (including Brits, Canadians etc) enough to fuck off constantly, have frequent negligent discharges, and fail to learn combat skills that can save your life? Many Coalition trainees fight willingly but they still suck.

The intelligent thing to do would be learn, train hard, then shoot whoever pissed you off afterwards. That doesn't happen very often.

Face and pride are more important than being effective.

This piece remains famous because it's still accurate.

http://www.meforum.org/441/why-arabs-lose-wars

Roaches have had decades of training and ample equipment plus a strong local defense industry. They still get spanked because defenders have the defensive advantage and they are fucking clueless.

Clueless troops are specifically the fault of their commanders. Their commanders are the fault of the leaders above them unless there are none.

The YPG is the military wing of the PYD. And the PYD are officially "associated" with the PKK cause of muh gommunism but there are PKK fighters in the YPG currently in Syria, so one might look at them as the same thing.
>Any opinions on the possible formation of a Kurdish nation after the Syrian conflict will be over?
Won't happen, Kurds are way too split up at the moment. Barzani is the only one looking like he can make someform of pseudo-state, but there is too much bad blood with the YPG/PKK to be able to expand into Rojava, especially now when he is allied to Turkey.
As for Rojava becoming its own state, I don't think Erdogan or Assad will allow it.

One of the finest ironies of this conflict is that the USA is now actively/passively allowing conversation of Kurdish independence to float around.

In the 50's and 60's and probably even later, the idea of an independent Kurdistan was a meme spread by the soviets - and a meme against which the USA was very much opposed.

There is great irony in the fact that old soviet propaganda and destabilisation tactics are now an official part of US doctrine and foreign policy.

It's not a bigger irony than giving alqueada an oscar 16 years after they demolished the twin towers...but it comes close.

> the YPG and PKK, are they basically the same? They seem to work together a lot. YPG In Syria, PKK in Turkey? Turkey is conducting airstrikes on the YPG though too, which is confusing.

Turkey considers them the same entity, and they follow a similar ideology. Theyre terrorist organisations in turkey. I would say their ultimate goal is the same even though their smaller governance is not. In the end, they want a kurdish state in Syria and Turkey.

> Is the YPG expanding into ISIS territory just for more land/kurdish cities, or because they actively are against ISIS?

They claim to be fighting ISIS in Syria, although they are bringing their own government and changing officials to their officials. They call this region Rojava, no one officially recognises it.

> Any opinions on the possible formation of a Kurdish nation after the Syrian conflict will be over? What does Assad think of the YPG or PKK?

Assad will not accept a Kurdish state or federation or region. He will not give them anything. He has been very clear about this. He maintains that Syrian kurds are part of Syrian society and has stated that after ISIS are eliminated they should go back to being normal Syrians. Syrian kurds are around 7% or less of the Syrian population, yet the Rojava want almost a third of Syrian land, in an area where they are not a majority. There is no way Assad will accept it or the people liviing there will accept a foreign kurd ruling over them. It will be another Israel for the Arabs.

The only way the kurdish will have a state is if the US forces it, with a deal with Russia. But this will anger Assad, Iran, Iraq and Turkey. All these countries have a kurdish population and having a kurdish state will make it a base for further kurdish uprisings in neighbouring countries.
With Erdogan attacking the SDF, it seems like this kurdish state is being unlikely.

ALL of them are in prison? Then who is waging the war?

In a US unit you could kill most of the officers and it would still function because we rely on career professional NCOs. (I was one.) I know the US trained heavily with Turkey for decades. I'm not sure about their Army NCO corps since I was Air Force.

Anyone can download plenty of US and other combined arms training literature. It's not a secret, but if you refuse to train heavily and empower your junior officers and NCO corps then you are fucked from the start.

If you don't know HOW to fight effectively, no, you really "can't" fight and your opponent mostly needs defensive advantage and sufficient balls.

>Duke has taken part in Iranian government sponsored events in Iran. In 2006, at the invitation of Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Duke took part in an event held in Tehran to question the Holocaust. "The Zionists have used the Holocaust as a weapon to deny the rights of the Palestinians and cover up the crimes of Israel," Duke told a gathering of nearly 70 researchers in Tehran at Ahmadinejad's invitation. "This conference has an incredible impact on Holocaust studies all over the world," said Duke.[109]

>USA is now actively/passively allowing conversation of Kurdish independence to float around
Probably just to increase pressure on Assad and Erdogan, with zero intention of actually doing it

>ground forces still maintain their fighting force.

The ground forces are precisely who lost those AFVs because they employed them wrongly and failed to use infantry to protect the tanks and APCs. Parking your tanks in TOW range is a major fuckup. That's what infantry are for, to deny terrain to ATGM gunners and suppress their aim by fire.

All but the most retarded US POG knows this. The commander in each tank or APC or any other fighting vehicle should know this.

Awful armor employment is common in the Middle East. You can see it in IS videos where a VBIED driver approaches down an uncontrolled street and the tank/AFV/APC guns are not fucking pointed down the street to kill him.

Even gamers who never left their basement know the basics of armor use nowadays. If your folks do not, send them vidya games or something they might actually take an interest in learning from!

It would make the war more interesting no matter whose side you favor.

All politicians are crooked. If you aren't, you have no backing and never get elected.
