Trump has nothing to do with this, other than that he is a republican president. People really need to stop complaining about trump specifically when their actual complaints are with a republican presidency generally.

>>118926617
What does this have to do with Trump? It was voted for by Republican senators. Trump had nothing to do with it, and can even veto the decision (not that he's going to). This hysterical viewpoint that everything the Republicans do is Trump's fault is asinine, and lets people like Paul Ryan, who's at least as slimy if not more so, completely off the hook.
>>118926639
No it isn't. You can have an internet without technology, with all the spyware intact. This topic is not technological.
>>118926617
At this point, why does it even bothers you so fucking much?
All your intel agencies have it, there's a ~95% chance all your data is "mined" by a tech giant.
Considering the fact that sooner or later tech giants won't make shit money from ads, i'm not even surprised.
Even then, if you would have wanted 100% privacy you would know that browsing the internet from home(or anyother place that requires your identification) is the most retarded shit ever, and it's not like these things are known since yesterday, they're known from at least the 90s.
I'd rather think that your problem isn't with the privacy itself, but the legal roundabouts of what you're browsing.
If it bothers you so fucking much move to another country, even the communist shithole that is the EU has better privacy laws than US for 10+ years.
>posted from my android device
the hypocrisy is real
This isn't even that big of a deal. No different from how Facebook, Google, and pornhub track your browsing habits.
Think about this as if it wasn't technology. Imagine if you walked into Starbucks every day to order coffee. Starbucks decides to remember what drinks you buy every day so they more easily market to you with specials, coupons, etc. And keep you as a customer, or sell your drinking habits to the Starbucks franchise in the next town because they've seen you purchase drinks from there a few times
Now imagine that this was illegal because you have a right to privacy in Starbucks when drinking Starbucks drinks, and that privacy includes your habits of drinking Starbucks drinks

If you think about it logically, how much data can they really get, anyways. 99% of the data sent between you and a server is encrypted these days. Even if it wasn't encrypted, it'd still be illegal for the ISP to snoop on said transfers. About the only data they have legal access to is whatever info they have on you that you gave them when you signed up, and a log of what IP addresses you are communicating with.
So, I guess they'll know that a random 30 year old man, or possibly someone in his family, or possibly a friend, is watching netflix. Wow. Advertising companies are going to be dying for that kind of intel!
At least Google uses its massive botnet to keep tabs on everything their cattle does, from search terms to the links they click on affiliated websites, and link it all back to specific individuals social media accounts. Way more valuable.

>The internet is communications and should have the same protections as a phone.
They do. Your phone company knows exactly who you're calling and when and how long, but they don't know the contents of the call. Your ISP knows exactly what IP you're connecting to and when and how much data was transferred, but they don't know the contents of the communication.
I mean, do you even think about what you're posting, or are you just going with reactionary outrage based on a narrative that's been force fed to you?

So your problem is with governemt sponsors monopolies
>>118927536
People opt-in to those services though. The internet makes up a large part of the economy, unless you're somehow completely self-reliant you don't really have much of a choice.
Kind of stupid. It's already legal for them to sell your data, all the law did was abort a regulation that was going to go into effect next year.
Besides, it's redundant and incomplete compared to what Google is selling, and what little they have on you that Google doesn't is pretty much irrelevant for marketers.
Just use a VPN if you care. You should be using one already, anyways.
>>118927958
So what you don't like are government enforced monopolies
I agree
>>118927536
You don't pay for Google and Facebook and you can still use the interwebs leaving minimum footprint this is straight up theft
>>118926617
They didn't already do this?
>>118927958
You can opt out of ISP data collection even after this as per FCC regulations.
>>118926621
this
>>118928492
You shouldn't have to. If you applied this to real life you're basically paying a letter carrier to deliver your mail, they shouldn't be opening your mail and scanning the contents and then selling it for profit.
So what is the actual vote count? Show me proof that democrats unanimously denied the bill.
>>118928453
>They didn't already do this?
Only for the last 20 years
Obama basically just gave Google a monopoly
wonder why Google is so liberal?

>This guy really likes /pol/ YouTube videos on how to get better at dota and chubby Asian porn.
>Lemme see those chubby Asian Web address, for research.
I'll be fine.
the only thing this changed was removing Google's monopoly over that data
>>118928825
People opt-in to google they do not really opt-in to internet usage. Also google is free*** and supported by advertising, ISPs are supported by the subscriber's monthly payment to them.
>>118928453
This vote was to override an FCC regulation that was about to go into effect making it illegal.
>>118928800
They're not scanning the contents. It's illegal to inspect the content of a packet. Most packets are encrypted even if they tried.
All they know is what IP address you're connecting to. Your phone carrier knows who you're calling and your mail carrier keeps records of who shipped items to who.
>>118929077
That's slightly better at least but still not great. ISPs still shouldn't be allowed to sell that data, they're providing a service for a price already they shouldn't get to double dip.
>>118926617
>Implying that Illary wouldn't have done the same shit.

All you NEETS are about to become perma-NEETs when your future potential employer looks up your internet history and sees how massive of faggots you all are.
This bill is awesome. I can screen for anonymous Nazis from my company by forking out a couple of bucks to comcast.
>>118929697
Look, I don't particularly care for the idea either, but the reality of the matter is that they're collecting that data no matter what, and it has a monetary value, so it's going to get sold one way or another whether there's FCC regulations or not. Realism takes precedence over idealism, and realism dictates that you should use a VPN if you're overly concerned.
>>118930292
>t. cuck
Yes goy, lets sell our rights away one bill at a time.
>>118929004
So you don't like government monopolies
That's the problem
>>118930726
I don't like monopolies in general. Government regulated monopolies are preferable to one without regulation.
>>118930478
You never had the "right" in the first place. The regulation preventing the sale of this information never went into effect, and it never will now that it's been repealed.
>commercial use
It's even worse, because this is enabling them to enhance their filth for money
If it was the government, they 'd have even more shit to look through than they already have, and it won't stop people from literally throwing false flags everywhere, making it EVEN HARDER to find potential threats, as a large number of people are ironically searching for "how 2 mk big bumb" on google or third party sites like, surprise surprise, this fucking place
