Russia had defense in depth in terms of their territory and had access to *OIL*. Germany and Japan were both oil starved. Japans involvement in the war was about resources and Germany's push towards the Caucasus was about access to oil.

Resource competition adds an interesting dimension to war, for instance Hitler went straight for the Caucasus mountains because he wanted oil.

He was also devoting resources in Africa and western Europe. There was no way Hitler was going to pull this off.

Don't bring Russia into this because they were technically fighting a two front war and technically at war with Japan, they didn't really do any fighting with Japan when WW1 was even on the horizon.
