He did though.
It's the sanctions that fucked Russia over. Note how every single anti-Putin statistic starts at 2014.

Russia has hilarious military, but most of it are land vehicles and none of it useful unless they control Ukraine.

Which is why everyone gets bent out of shape over Ukraine.

What is the importance of Ukraine to Russia?
>>
>>113679296

But Russia has a black sea coastline with ports of their own. Couldn't they just expand on those?

As for access to Mediterranean, they still have to go through what's essentially Turkey's internal waters.

not so much about warm water ports (Novorossiysk would have done) as controlling the buffer seas

Russia must have some control of Black Sea, Baltic and sea of Okhotsk, or at least deny Western fleets freedom of movement there to be able to defend shoreas and make strikes on our most valuable targets difficult. It's paranoid way to think, but military is supposed to think that way and any elected Russian leader would have to think that way too, since we were really brutalized by ww2 and quick NATO expansion makes Russians nervous.

>>113678443
Putin's a silovik and he often quotes conservative Russian thinkers, it's pretty clear his brain works exactly like this - strategic decisions, long view. Security comes before economy. most Russians would agree with such priorities.

This anon gets it.
Imagine if some Mexican state (like Sonora) suddenly decided to become independent and join the USA. Trump would then gladly accept it without asking the opinion of the US citizens and fucking up relations with the rest of the world in the process.
The new state would then become the one of the most dotation-dependent in the USA, rivaling even New Mexico and Mississippi, and of course, tax payers would be the ones paying for them poor patriotic spics.
And remember, all of this had to be done because Sonora had some hypothetical port... which Mexico didn't have any problem renting to the USA anyway.
But don't think about it, you don't want to be "unpatriotic", right anon?

Basically this.

I was born in the early 80s. So I saw what Russia was like shortly after the fall of the Soviet Union. And basically Putin is the first really very competent leader they had since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

And he fucked the shit up of Chechen terrorists who were responsible for a number of horrific attacks through the 1990s.

Crimea problem is nothing, comparing it to real problem: weakness of russian economy. Which is a primal fault of Putin because of his suspicious tolerance to thieves, parasitic diasporas, crooks amongs 'siloviks' and incompetent liberal economic team in goverment.

Russia needs a good purge. Even if i don't like commies comrade Beria could have been a proper guy now.
>>
>>113684487
Plus the US backed the Ukranian coup. Russia's naval access to the black sea was in Jeopardy.

Putin's hand was forced on that issue, primarily by the US.

You have to add the inflation rates up for each year to see what's the real value of the ruble today. The ruble from 1999 was worth a lot more than today's rubble.

Also check how much of their GDP is just raw materials export (oil and gas). If the prices on oil drop, their GDP drops too. It's highly dependant on oil prices.

Too bad, also, that there isn't a figure for what was Putin's wealth in 1999 and his wealth now...

Crimea was cause by EU and globalist fucks interfering in internal Ukrainian matters. There was a populist element that wanted to align more with the EU the president took a package from Russia and there were protests. Had people stayed out of it there might have been a civil solution where the president could be forced to compromise. Instead people played games under the table funding anti government activities to push it to the EU.

Russia stepped it up by sending in non regulars essentially mercenaries.

Now Crimea is part of Russia and from looking at everything honestly the Crimean people want to be Russia. Now the remaining part of Ukraine has an uncertain future. Maybe theyll align with the EU maybe theyll collapse. Honestly they dont have a strong hand though and the EU despite any other claims will likely just abuse them economically.

But Russia already had seaside territory at the Black Sea. And other ports too.
So that's not really the true argument.

Without Crimea you would still have access to the Black sea (pic related).

This is the actual reason. Controlling a bigger piece of the Black sea, not just having access to it.

They are constantly under economic warfare that they do not need to provoke. This is 100% true. My question is very simple: why we allow them (Belarus, Kyrgyzstan etc etc) to parasite on our economy one way or another, whilst we only loose possibilities?

Thats what i blame Putin for. He is a very weak economical player. Everyone uses him. It may sound crasy for propaganda washed brain, but its true. Unlike liberashkas i don't blame him for Crimea, Georgia or anything like that. I'm seriously angered on him because of fantastic slovenliness. Pacпиздяйcтвo близкoe к пpeдaтeльcтвy.

there are many survivable land missile installations that can get covered by Russia's top notch air defence, and a fleet base that can deploy and operate in the black sea.

No, US doesn't have ship-launched missiles that can hit a moving ship in the black sea from say mediterranian. tomahawks with huge range are best for fixed targets. and air defence willl make it difficult for NATO's choice weapon - the airforce.

Mostly it matters because tomahawks are a first strike weapon, and it's enough they're not fired that close at the beginning of the conflict, which base in crimea easily grants.

Lul, but you have not provided anything at all, yet labeled me as "parasha". Wtf does it even mean? I don't waste time on russian boards and do not watch russian TV. If i have spare time i use it to investigate rosstat or reading some economists to get me informed about how's mother Russia is doing. Again you as majority of pro-Putin and anti-Putin shills here have provided literally 0 arguments. You look shill as fuck now.
>>
>>113697622
Arguments for what? I think that you are a parasha shill, because you talk like them, the same "everything which is bad is Putin's fault, everything which is good is luck and someone else's victory" and listing facts detached from context with immediate subjective evaluation (like in oil-refinery factory case, like not even questioning if it's economically and politically feasible, who's in charge of these solutions, who's the opposition, etc)

Since Putin is an autocrat everything which is bad is Putin's fault. Easy.
>everything which is good is luck
It partly merit of Putin and of good-willed russians. I do not see him as nessesary evil. I see him as an ineffective autocrat. He must go, time of autocrats is gone. It's 21st century.

The best propaganda is self sustaining, meaning it takes off and has a grassroots base. I think in regards to Russia it has more to do with just how much the American right wing despises the Jew media, they would rather side with Russia than with them.

I like Putin in a way that he's centrist on many issues.
He doesn't behead gays like in Saudia, but he doesn't pose for lgbt magazines like trudeau and doesn't introduce gender neutral pronouns like Canada. Putin introduced that anti-gay propaganda law, though there are still plenty of gay bars in Russia etc.
He took crimea and support insurgents on Ukrainian east, but he didn't send tank pincer to Kiev, like many demanded.
He doesn't bow down to West and takes a stand, but still didn't fall into extremes of North Korea.
He put jew Khodorkovsky to prison, kicked out another jew Browder, tortured to death Magnitskiy, kicked out jew Berezovsky, etc. But he still flirts with jew community and there are plenty of jewish oligarchs and figures left.
and so on and on, Putin and his pol techs have fairly balanced approach on many questions

Ukraine now is what Russia was in the 90s and what Putin inherited: collapsed economy, civil war threatening further collapse of the country, collapse of the military industrial complex, oligarchs owning the country and the media. The only difference is Russia was regaining sovereignty (Yeltsin's defense of Serbia / Yugoslavia), while Ukraine is completely a western puppet state right now, whose existence is to be used as a tool against Russia.

>>
>>113678443
They can't get rid of Putin. He literally owns everything. He's literally the richest man on earth.

See, when the Soviet Union fell, and all the nationally-owned industries were auctioned off, who do you think bought most of them? That's right, you guessed it, our favorite ex-KGB. Then strangely, the first democratically-elected president quit after not very long in office, stepping aside for Putin. Likely Putin blackmailed him.

So now, despite the rules there, he's been president or prime minister interchangably ever since. And everyone who runs against him gets killed or put in prison. A guy literally just got phony charges on him and was put in prison this month.

Russia is Putin's bitch forever.
