2 places. 1 place was where the L.A. riots were. I was there to get rid of a bunch of old, metal bed frames for a Christian organization, which was located in a very nice area.

Ten years ago I rode a bicycle down a main road in Gary Indiana all the way across the city at midnight. Me and a friend were trying to bike halfway around Lake Michigan so we had to pass through Gary. We were dumb kids and had no idea how bad Gary was. Right after Gary was South Chicago, which we also had to bike through after midnight. I suppose it's strange we were not killed. Actually the closest we came to being murdered was by the cops who stopped us in South Chicago. They pulled up in an unmarked silver car and the latino cop in the passenger seat asked if we needed help getting anywhere. But they like pinched off our path on the road to prevent us from going anywhere, and they were forcing us to talk. They didn't identify themselves as cops, I assumed we were about to be killed so I said "fuck this" and hopped the curb and took off down the sidewalk. They slammed on the gas and drove over the sidewalk and cut me off, and the beefy manlet driver jumped out and yelled "do you want to FUCKING PLAY with me" while charging at me with his gun drawn. Only once I saw the cuffs did I realize it was a cop and not a gang member. They accused me of running away to throw drugs into the grass, so they brought another unit with dogs while trying to decide whether to frame us for something. After an hour they let us go and the latino cop warned us to "watch out for the niggers". Later a pedestrian we asked for directions also warned us about "niggers". Chicago is a fucking cartoon, avoid at all costs.

People were used to getting $30/hour at the steel plant and get offended when you offer them a job paying $12/hour to work in a warehouse.
