Look guys, the idea of jacking vaporwave is cool i guess but most of the stuff here looks unconvincing from a technical standpoint.
The layers of the images often don't mesh together properly, the color saturation is overdone a lot, sometimes everything's incredibly sharp when the visual language invokes VHS fuzziness, it's just really inconsistent.

Not trying to take the wind out of anyone's sails, just saying that a lot of you need to practice, practice practice more, and study the kind of stuff you're appropriating to see what makes it work the way it does.

You absolutely correct, but you might be missing the point. We are just here practicing and sharing ideas, which by definition requires lots of repitition. I'm the og RWDS maker and it took me a lot of work git gud and would have loved to had a small community like this one to hang out with.

To everyone in here, keep up the good work!

A few pointers from what i've seen:
>Vapor is not about incoherent million layers, but often about clarity
>if you are going for the 80s poster look, make sure there are contrasting colors and a sense of proportion. It seems a lot of people are sacrificing readibility or striking visuals to a bunch of bright, clashing colors
>Keep it Simple, Stupid, the key is the message and simple imagery, not throwing in a million things.

But then again, a lot of us are like Cybernazi, visibly getting better over time despite sucking at first.

Notice how this one isn't totally inundated with a million incomprehensible layers? Each part sort of stands out on its own. A mistake i've seen with a lot of your guys stuff is the image seems to just melt into one jumble of neon, rather than distinct parts.

I'd say the above is the closest to 'getting' the original style but that of course doesn't mean we should just ape one format or anything like that.

It's legible and its clarity lends it a more powerful message. It's clearly distorted but in a manner that adds to the aesthetic, rather than making it hard to see.

This is probably the 'dirtiest' edit i have done yet, but i still personally find it to be clear and legible in any case. I really wouldn't go 'dirtier' than this as far as clarity is concerned.

Since i was so limited, and still am in many ways, as far as skill goes, i had to stick to a very simple formula that emphasized, again, clarity and sense of proportionality.

I recommend you dont just look at what i've posted but really browse pinterest, old movie posters, things like that.

Yeah I have PS through college and very little skill outside post processing with it. So just used the Russell's Rainbow for the lines with a grid and purple/white lines. After that was just adding noise and shake reduction. Used Alien Encounters font, overall I like it for my first attempt at this stuff ever.

The more dirty vaporwave style IS possible but it's such a fine balance as to make it hard to execute consistently. There is such a fine balance between odd aesthetic juxtaposition and incomprehensible nightmare.

The pic related is a good example of teetering right on that balance, but sitll in the clear of 'coooool'
