I live in SD and the Che Cafe just won't die, regardless of its astronomical loss of attendees and quality bands willing to play here. It was pretty great when I was in high school and people weren't policing Niggas left and right. They were always far left commies, but plenty of right-leaning kids and people (even military) would show up because we were all there to get down in the pit.
Theeeen they made it a fucking safe space, and people dropped that shit like a bowl of molten metal and went running off to find any place that wasn't the Che because they all knew what was coming. They knew that eventually people like Lora Mathis and other ultra feminists would be headlining Friday and Saturday nights. They knew it would go from a damn good time to a stern lecture on gender politics.
What came next was their inability to be up to code, so the fire marshal decided that after looking the other way and giving them 2nd, 3rd 4rth, and 5th chances to get their shit up to code, that he would finally shut it down. And boy did the rich freeloading commies have a fucking fit. Of course no one could pitch in to pay for any upgrades since their liberal arts degrees and gender studies would only get them a minimum wage job. So instead they protested and cried until the paper caught wind of it and haggled the fire dpt to leave them alone for the time being.
Now the place is run by a few commie boys, but now it's mostly alt ultra feminists who making paintings using their period blood (I'm not even kidding), and they wonder why the rest of UCSD hates them and wants them gone.
If any of you guys could finally put the last nail in the coffin of their dying rotting commie fetus, please do. Shut them down for good.

Purple Polilla is looking to be an unlikely target for enforcement. I made a mistake in the last thread when I thought it was a residential zone. It turns out it's in a C-3 zone (general commercial). While the zoning ordinances don't explicitly say music venues are allowed, it does make allowances for restaurants and "brewpubs" in that zone... meaning somewhat noisy establishments should be okay.

Might have to check them on a general fire prevention code basis. Considering they only have one smoke detector, that might be fine.

Band lists itself as being from the neighboring town Belmar despite all references to the venue being in Wall. Bassist does not list town publicly, drummer and guitar live ~15-20 minutes away. Lead singer lists town as Belmar and has pictures of a dog, so it might be his house or bassist's?

Most recent show I can find is October 7th: http://consequenceofsound.net/2016/09/toy-cars-have-real-regrets-on-their-new-song-stone-listen/ so it's safe to assume they are still hosting a show ~monthly, but this one will be difficult to track down. I haven't found any pictures or videos of shows ongoing and they don't have a page listing upcoming shows specifically at this venue.

From my understanding of the International Fire Code, the place is too small to require sprinklers.

It's something like a "dance hall", which would put it as a Group A-3 occupancy, but it honestly does not look like it could hold more than 50 people, which would make it a Group B occupancy. Either way, I don't think it's large enough. For an A-3 occupancy to require sprinklers, it has to be >12k sq. ft., hold over 300, or not be on the ground floor. It doesn't look like Group B occupancies ever need sprinklers.

Look, it's hard to describe what those venues mean to people but I'll try my best. DIY underground venues are places where people of that community commune to feel safe and interact with like-minded people in a non-commercial space. Those venues have existed since the 80s and have been a great artistic outlet for many people. The Oakland fire must have been the WORST tragedy to happen in one of these venues as far as I know, and only around 30 people died. Definitely a tragedy like I said, my feelings go out to those people and their families, but that incident is not something that should be creating such controversy that people who have probably never even heard of the DIY community to be coming together to try to indirectly or directly shut down these venues. It just seems so unlikely that this could be coming from a genuine place of wanting to spread safety. You're so damn excited about this stuff typing in all caps, making your memes, I can't believe that you really have your minds set on a positive ideal.

Being a musician that is part of the DIY community I've spoken to many people who are affiliated with these types of venues and they feel like they're being wrongfully targeted, and in some cases fearful of their lives.
