Is it just me or does micro four thirds actually look like film?
>>3139269
yes, it's the only sensor size that can accurately replicate film
>>3139269
It os the combination of heavy grain in low iso, beightly lit pictures that does it for you.
Take a picture at ISO 6400 in daylight with a fullframe camera and then apply chronatic noise reduction and you get a similar image.

nice try, autist
I shot Panny for a few years. This was taken with a GX1. I eventually sold all my m4/3 stuff and got an a6000. The Sony takes better pictures and is ALMOST as portable, but I still have Gear Acquisition Syndrome for a GM5 with a pancake 14mm.

why isn't there any micro four third DSLR?
>>3139459
the Micro 4/3 mount was made for mirrorless, regular old 4/3 had dozens of dslr options though. Even Lieca made several 4/3 dslrs.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Thirds_system#Four_Thirds_System_cameras
>>3139459
because the lenses are designed for a really short flange distance, something which isnt possible to achieve with a mirror between the lens and sensor
okay guys, is there even any reason to buy a micro four thirds nowadays? i want the OM-D E-M10 because it's cheap and it looks small and light and i can buy the 17mm lens and it will look even smaller, but is there any point in buying micro four thirds? is it even a serious camera? well i'm not a pro, but i still want to take this seriously, so should i worry about sensor sizes?
>>3139480
what kind of photography do you intend to do? m4/3 can be both great and horrible depending on what you want it for.
>>3139484
What's it horrible for?
>>3139484
Look, my plan is to buy a 17mm for the OM-D, which means i will get an equivalent of 34mm. So i intend to do 34mm prime lens photography.
>>3139480
>is it even a serious camera?
no, it is only for people who takes photos ironically
>so should i worry about sensor sizes?
depends on how many megapixels you need, and on how good noise performance you need out of camera.
>>3139494
17*2=24
>>3139502
trying to "troll"?
>>3139500
>no, it is only for people who takes photos ironically
Why is this? Is it because it's not sharp enough?
>>3139511
it's because it's shit
>>3139489
Small dicked fuckboys who need a big sensor to compensate.
>>3139516
Yeah well why is it shit? What function does it not fulfill besides sharpness?
>>3139519
it's too small. a camlet, if you will.
Four thirds only makes sense before the era of fuji x series. Back when people only know nikon and canon
>>3139520
Why does it bother you so much though? So the sharpness is the only concern here, right?
>>3139523
sharpness is not a concern
t. m4/3 shooter (and if you don't want to take my word for it, just look up sample images online ffs; also, don't come to 4chan as your sole resource for consumer advice)
>>3139523
dude I'm just joking, as I said at first, it depends on how many megapixel you want, and how good iso performance you want out of camera. and I guess if you're a "muh bokeh"-guy then that's a reason to get a bigger sensor
>>3139526
So why are you a 4/3 shooter?
>>3139530
Yeah, why would someone deliberately cripple themselves?
>>3139511
it is a good camera with good controls which make it better than an entry level canon imo.
you might want to have a look at the mark 2. mark 3 is announced so you could get it for cheap and it has the brilliant ibis.

>>3139533
Unless you are shooting on a 4x5" large frame camera or even a 100mp medium format system camera, are you not also deliberately crippling yourself?
>>3139489
Low light, you just can't beat sensor size for light gathering in very low light situations, of course add a flash and even that isn't a problem.
>>3139480
the difference between m43 and apsc is within margin of error unless you're a /p/ autist.
get the camera that is most convenient to you, and always remember that lenses>bodies
>>3139517
I asked what was M43 horrible you fucking moron. How are M43 compensating with a smaller sensor?
>>3139554
The IBIS in a pen F though is astounding assuming your subject isn't moving. I can hand hold at 1/2 second.

I have a 20mm f1.7 and recently picked up a 17mm f1.8 with the intention of selling the 20mm. Maybe I shouldn't have been pixel peeping, but in comparisons with the 20mm, the 17mm lost literally every time except for a few isolated cases in center sharpness. I ended up reselling the 17mm instead, and am considering picking up a 14mm f2.5 and selling the 20mm anyway because I use my 25mm f1.8 most of the time. Here's a comparison of the two: http://imgur.com/a/ZN4lo
>>3139594
How does the 17mm lose though?

>>3139655
how is it against the lumix 25mm f/1.7? that one is about 100 $ cheaper, and looks better imo, I'm planning to get one
>>3139565
Do you have trouble with English? 4/3 is terrible for the fuckboys who have to shoot full frame to compensate.
>>3139267
The composition made it great, not the camera
there's something satisfying about 4/3 results when you zoom in. instead of making it super sharp and shows ugly pixel weakness when you zoom in on them, 4/3 results aren't as sharp but when you zoom in on them, they look like film. they don't show that ugly pixelated details, they just seem blurry like films and not boxy-pixels.
>>3139893
This has nothing to do with m43 except for its technical limitations. That's to say: less signal means the photograph must be good and cannot ride on pixel peeping or cropping. It occurs to a smaller degree in APS bodies, and on film of course.
And yeah, processing software has come a long way in making noise look nicer. The purple fog is mostly gone these days.
I love me expensive lenses

What's a recommended travel lens for my PEN F around 17mm? Need fast auto focus and preferably be compact.
>>3141195
Oly 17/1.8
Pana 20/1.7 but it's old so AF is not as good
Panaleica 15/1.7 if you're feeling rich
Sigma 19/2.8 if you're feeling poor
Pana 14/2.5 if you want minimum size
Avoid the 17/2.8
>>3141205
Thanks bro. Guess I can stretch to the Oly 17mm...
How bad is the Sigma?
>>3141234
The Sigma is optically great, it's just more than a stop slower than the alternatives (and not particularly small either).
>>3141205

OP's pic is made with the 17mm 2.8 and its good

Yes, it is a small camera.
Its power is taking small photos.
>>3141205

why? you suggested Sigma 19/2.8
I love adapting lenses
Like this Jupiter 21m 4.0/200mm
with the G7 I couldnt get a guaranteed stable shot at 1/125s but now I can go as low as 1/30s
