Are there any good sites explaining/teaching photography? Basically I just bought a dslr because I like taking photos on walks and have no idea about any of the exposure, shutter speed etc or how to correctly utilise them

Don't internet, it's too full of half-smart retards spouting garbage advice on blogs. Go to a library and check out some books that explain photography basics instead.
Learn what aperture, shutter speed, and sensitivity does to a picture, and learn what kind of pictures you want to take.

I like to experience this story in reverse:
• A man in an an abusive relationship slowly achieves clarity about his situation
• He runs away
• As he slows down he passes through a tunnel
• At the other end he finds himself in the wilderness
• He enjoys his freedom for a little while but slowly starts to realise how isolated and lonely he really is.
