Won't be anywhere near it, so my plan is to not shoot it.
>take X700.
>put on telephoto lens.
>point at sun.
>click.
>never know if I got the shot because now blind.
There's gonna be millions of shitty photos of a boring circle. I'd rather take a picture of people standing around staring at it.
>>3131884
Not pointing my camera at the sun
well i found out today the sun can somehow damage a sensor so that's out
i mean wtf so even if you take a picture with a wide angle and the sun is in it you can damage it [?!?!?!]
I only found out about the eclipse last week. Been trying to think of ideas to make a short film but can't think of anything.
I guess I can get some stock footage but would be nice if I could incorporate it into a plot related shot.
Gonna get some real good snaps of the ground
Bought solar eclipse sunglasses off of ebay, should be here by Saturday
I have two cameras, one with a 70-200mm along with a teleconverter 2x, so I can get a good view of it. I also have a 12mm lens allowing me to get a good scenery shot.
I just now bought the nd1000 filter for them, however they might not arrive in time. If they don't come in time, I'll use a welding lens.
The problem is it'll arrive when I'm at work, so I'll have to find a good area to get a good shot.
>>3131954
This mostly. There are going to be people with much better gear than mine taking much better pictures of the actual eclipse. I'd like to capture the area its covering.
I'll be fine without a cover so long as I dont point it at the sun right?
>>3132019
I'm a stupid noob with a stupid instax mini 90 camera I want to get pictures with, is there any way I can buy a some kind of big lens (not a normal photography one) to hold in front of it to get a poor man's zoom?
You can't mix and match actual lens attachments on it.
I'm putting a welding lens in front of the aperture/exposure sensor so it doesn't solarize.
>>3131884
I've got a canon 750D with a 400mm zoom and a solar filter. Tooks this a few days ago for practice.

i would like to take pictures of people during the eclipse, but i dont want to be around a bunch of retards during the eclipse.
i'm going to a country road right on the center line to enjoy it alone and just gonna take a few shots to stick in my binder. it's a 200 mile drive, so i'll probably get some shots on the way there and back.

Im in colorado so i think we get 90% eclipse, dont have an appropriate filter though and not sure how important it is. Will be at work too so ill have to bring my gear and and take a break when it starts.
Im not going to I don't give a shit I haven't taken pictures in months Im just going to walk outside my house and look at it then go to the gym

They dragged us out of class in high school for the last comparable one in the late 70s. Shitty, overcast day. It got darker for a while, then it got lighter, went back inside. Couldn't really peg it as any kind of spiritual experience.
Plenty of killer images of eclipses available already. I might as well be inside using the DentalEye to shoot gold coins or circuit boards.

If i shot the eclipse at f32 at 200mm will my sensor still get fucked? I'm using a Sony a6000...
I'm stuck /p/, I need help.
Should I:
>drive 20 miles to the zone of totality
Or
>stay in my current city and photograph the cityscape/people reacting to the eclipse, even though it would be 100% totality?

I'm heading to the Georgia Guidestones and am trying to take a self portrait with the eclipse and stones in background. I'm bringing an f1.8 and am just curious if anyone here has experience shooting an eclipse over landscape? How dark does it really get?
>>3131884
>put camera and phone down.

Also, you can photograph the light going through trees on the sidewalk. Looks cool.
Heading for Hickman NE south of Lincoln NE taking non major roads to avoid traffic. I will be running an 800 mm lens with a Daystar Solar filter, which I picked up for $25.00 USD. I chose Hickman which is close to Beatrice where NASA is going to be doing observations. Bill Nye will also be in Beatrice just being awesome. Traffic in Beatrice will be crazy so I'm setting up where there is likely to be less drama but still in the line of totality.
F8 and sleep through it.
I'm hoping that it'll cast some orange/yellow light. Gonna buy some high grain film and take some sp00py shots of my friends (female) on a roof.
I have a nice panoramic view of the San Fernando Valley from my house, and can walk 5 minutes to the top of the hill and get one of the LA basin. I'll probably focus on shooting the city under weird eclipse light and not on the eclipse itself.

Is a really cool effect too, I saw the same thing happen in Sacramento a few years back. Sadly I didn't have a camera with me at the time.
Eclipse Recon -
Hi, I live in the path of the total eclipse - zip code 37040...
I drove 40(?) minutes today from my house to Cerulean, KY, where the epicenter of the eclipse will be:
- There is nothing there but farmer fields and the actual epicenter is in the middle of this corn-field where it will probably be off limits.
- People are charging from $25.00 to $65.00 to park in their yards.
- There are lots of areas that are taped off with "Private Property, No trespassing" red tape and all that. Kind of gay, if you ask me.
I also drove to Hopkinsville, KY:
- Hopkinsville, KY was not as "Hoppin'" as I thought it would be.
- They have a festival there in Hopkinsville, so there are like 2 live bands.
- There is also an anniversary (I can't remember how many years ago) that little green men abducted a family on the 21st of August a while back. Maybe that's what the festival is for - the little green men festival. I can't be sure.
- Center of Hopkinsville is cordoned off to pedestrians only. Hopkinsville is normally a very boring hole in the ground and whatever history it has might only be as old as the civil war.

Will a telephoto lens protect my sensor? I have a 70-200 zoom
I don't understand why the eclipse would fuck up a sensor, can any of you explain it to me?
I'm going to try to watch it from the Biltmore Estate. I'll have my D750 set up with a wide angle to take a time lapse of the scene.
I'll be shooting the eclipse itself with my film Nikon so I don't have to worry about killing my sensor. I think I should get decent results with my 70-210mm lens and Delta 100 film. I'll also have my Oly 35RC to take pictures of everything else going around me.

So, wait, slightly unrelated, but are you saying that the shots I've taken with the sun in them are damaging my camera?

Is that an UFO?
>>3137042
Thanks. I bracketed my shots and used burst. A few were bound to hit. I will probably fuck around with composites with my other exposures.
>>3137061
Yup

Here's another, at first it looked overblown until I seen the moon and realized why I could see the details.

I like it! I don't believe it's over exposed, it works.
>>3137099
Don't get me wrong, I realize how many of my shots are keepers. My goal was the diamond ring/Baily's beads and corona shots and I was able to get way more than I expected with my relatively low focal length of 300mm. Pic related.

I didn't think the flash mattered, so I was just shooting on whatever I could get shots with.
What does the flash change?
>>3137184
Nothing unless you're around other people. Then it could possibly fuck up others' shots if they are doing something a bit wider.
>>3136856
Logged a thousand miles on my car the past couple of days to an unpaved area so I could be within a few hundred feet of the centerline. First priority was enjoyment, second was /p/ and third was /x/ hoping I would get superpowers or having a better chance of succubi summoning now. I regret nothing.
Ingredients:
• Cheap-shit 500mm f/8 from Amazon
• Cheap ND64 * ND2000 stacked
• Used my backup camera, for the extra 1.6x telephoto and so I didn't fuck up my 5D3 if I accidentally fried it.
Turned out surprisingly well.

i was just outside of the area of totality, it was cloudy as fuck but desu i like the way the footage turned out
>>3137293
Good shot. You have any shots with the nd filters? I want to see how they compare with solar filters. Solar filters have that orange cast.
>>3137296
Here's one where the ND filters were still on.
Hard to tell if there's actually any color cast, though, given it's a digital shot of the straight-up sun. I can make it pretty much whatever color I want using my white balance sliders. Auto-white-balance temperature says 4000, tint = -2 if that helps.

I'm a total novice with video, I've got recordings of the sun going across the frame, how do I do some tracking magic so that it stays in the middle of the frame instead of moving across it?
>>3137321
Unless you can rent or find used ones online, you'll have to shell out a few hundred for even the cheapest "goto" mounts.
Usually for telescopes, there are adapters for cameras. There might be gotos designed for cameras with astrophotography popularity these days, but I haven't looked.
>>3137324
No I'm talking about doing this in post in After Affects/Premiere. The image posted is a frame from the video, I want to square it up and have the sun stay in the middle while the video runs with the eclipse transition.
Her is mine. Pretty boring

This is the closest ive seen so far to how it actually looks.
I accidentally bracketed my exposures, which was great, because I was able to produce this HDR photo with them.
