i actually found an old book about japanese cooking my mum was about to throw away which had very /p/oetic pictures from japanese rooms/cooking utensils, etc. they were soft and had aberations but it suited them very well. i cant scan atm but i think ill take some example pics in maybe half an hour.

It doesn't matter is the composition is good, if there's even a little bit of choma, too much contrast, or spherical aberration, it's shit, if the body and lens aren't working together in harmony to produce a crisp, sharp, neutral picture, it's absolute dogshit, and no """"subject"""" can fix it, good pictures are taken on good gear, and if you lack the income to afford good gear, DONT take fucking photos, you don't even have the eye to see a nice neutral shot anyways

I think in order to produce aeasthetic chromab you'd need a dedicated prism or something. lens chromb is always associated with all these other optical defects that work together to tell the viewer he's looking at low-quality optics.

Allthough the book seems to be some cooking book at first glance (besides the unusually large format) its more like a documentation of the role of japanese cuisine in the japanese culture with added recipies and extremely informative. as i said my mum wanted to throw old books away and i stopped at this one because the pics are superb. turns out the guy who made them is a seemingly well known photographer named eliot elisofon.

plus while visiting my parents atm i adapted my dads old lenses, i took the pics early with his nifty fifty, an old nikon 50mm 1.8 e-series. it's pretty good, sharp from 2.0 onward, naturally no vignetting and no noticable distortion allthough contrast is a little low when open (might test again when i thorougly cleaned the glass though). im pretty happy with it.
