A little while ago, I bought a lumix gx85. I brought it on vacation and have been taking a lot of pictures with it but I just don't like any that I take. I used to use my parents' old dslr and I loved the pictures I could take. However, I upgraded for 4K but have somewhat regretted it. I think I might start to use it only as a video camera since I like some of the videos I take. The point is that regardless of subject, I'd enjoy to look at more pictures I took with the Nikon dslr than this m43 mirrorless. I was sort of wondering why this could be. I heard someone else on this board say that dslr and m43 have very different aesthetics, which from my experience with the two is something I'd agree with. I'm mostly wondering if anyone has any info on this topic or have experienced similar things.

I'm no expert, but maybe it's because Panasonic has shit lenses?

nice subtle troll post
There are only 3 things that could be happening (if you aren't a troll which you are.)
>1. Nikon cooks jpgs in camera different
If you are a faggot that shoots jpg you might get different renderings on the jpgs vs the jpgs on a different camera but this can be really easily fixed on the raw file
>2. doesn't understand crop factor
My guess would be someone not knowing crop factor and going "why does a 50mm on x look different than on y"
>3. muh bokah
Cheap DSLR lenses tend to get shallower DoF than cheap M43 lenses. It is easier to get muh shallow dof using a 50 mm f1.8 on a aspc sensor than a 45 mm f1.8 on a m43.
But you can get pretty good DoF with Voigtlander, Mitikon, PannyLeica, or higher grade olympus lenses like the 75mm

I'm using a Nikon lens with an adapter but I do definitely think that crop factor could have something to do with it. It's kind of hard to explain the differences that I'm spotting but if it makes any sense, lights look different on the two cameras

Also thanks for the advice.

What adapter? And what Nikon did you used to use?

>op use kit lens
>complains less borkeh than his apsc nigon
get a 25 1.7

Panasonic has noisy sensors optimized for video, Olympus is the MFT for stills, am OM5 would be better suited.
might also be aspect ratio - aspc/ff is 3:2, m43 is 4:3.

How does that impact crop factor? Like does m43 have more distortion? Is more image being captured in the vertical? or is less image being captured in the horizontal?

i'd ay it's more abour composition than crop factor.
if op is used to 3:2, then having 4:3 while still composing like with 3:2 might make them look weird - and as op described he just doesn't like them but doesn't know why.

Is a 25mm on a 43 (which has a 2x crop factor) as wide as a 50mm on a full frame and the m43 just has more info at the top and bottom of the frame, or is the 25mm more narrow than the 50?
