Absolute anecdotal evidence, but most of the times I get more keepers from rolls shot for fun with friends or in completely improvised settings than when I try to go for a particular theme or artistic value.
With pro's I'd say it's similar. I've noticed they'll take multiple frames of the same subject which helps the chances it's decent. Also there standards are quite high so despite them being more talented and producing photos the average person would be happy with, many will probably never see the light of day.
