If it fails like the DL line Nikon is over.
>>
>>3120082
Sadly they call it D850 instead of D820 because they know they will be bankrupt before reaching D890.
>>
>>3120232
Good, that means nikkor glass will be cheaper.

I've got a D810. I'm set for camera bodies until that thing dies which should be a long damn time from now. I could give three shits less if Nikon goes out of business in the ensuing time.
>>

Among the hobbyist dabbler bracket, maybe. They have a stranglehold on the pro market and will for the foreseeable future.

keep kidding yourselves, mirrorless offers superior lens design constraints and nikon is out of the sensor game to boot
you think nikon will finally introduce good sensor-based autofocus this time around? or good camera firmware? nah, this will be an 810 with more pickels and glowing buttons.
>>
Why, oh why can't industry insiders post on /p/ and tell us secret information...

>>3120626
>good sensor-based autofocus
Have you seen this?
https://nikonrumors.com/2016/11/23/nikon-two-layers-sensor-patent.aspx/
Basically this design enables on-chip quad-pixel phase detection AF and each AF point would be cross-type. In addition to that, the two layers have complementary colours, so you'd get 100% of the luminence data and a ton of other benefits. Nikon isn't completely out of ideas yet.
>>
>>3120692
>so you'd get 100% of the luminence data

How's that?
>>
Who else here owns a D800 and has no desire to upgrade whatsoever?

I'll probably use it for another 10 years or so.
>>
>>3120714
>>3120714
Not him, but the first layer would capture one color and let the remaining colors pass.
For example a red pixel will let green and blue pass.

The second layer would capture all remaining light.
>>
>>3120714
>>3120721
The patent describes it the other way around but that's the principle. For example red and blue would first be absorbed into a magenta layer and green would continue to the second layer. Green and magenta combined equals white, so nothing would be wasted.
>>
>>3120716
Have a D810 and love it to death. Wouldn't mind a second body but I'm not sure about dropping another $3,000+ on another camera.
>>
>>3120732
>>3120721
but how can you get 100% of the colour information without sampling all three of the primary colours at each photosite?

or is there something I'm missing when they combine CMY and RGB colour arrays?
>>
I have a d750 and I want this.

I know I shouldn't, but I do.
>>
>>3120741
You don't get 100% of the colour information, only 100% of the luminance. Basically the CMY layer captures light that would otherwise be wasted. The colours should be a little more accurate but that's not the point of the design.
>>
>>3120741
And if you're confused about how all of the light can be captured, cyan, magenta and yellow are complementary colours to red, green and blue. With a normal RGB sensor each pixel captures one of the three colours and the other two are wasted. C, M and Y are made up of those two missing colours, so by having them in the top layer means that they can be captured as well. And having the CMY layer first also means that each pixel can utilize twice as much light as a standard RGB pixel before any loss of information happens. The first layer is translucent but there will always be some loss of information, so before that loss happens, more is is captured.
>>

Oh fuck, I forgot about the D600 oil fiasco.

I will say, though, that Nikon handled it well for me. I bought a D600, had the oil spots, called them, they asked me to take a picture of a white wall and email to a customer service rep, and within about a day they sent me a brand new D610. No questions asked. No forms or anything fancy.

>lens mount not lightproof
>explosive batteries release blinding gasses while camera is held to eye
>all 51 AF points fire at all times
>once burst mode is engaged, it can't be stopped until card is full or battery is run dry
>>
>>3121021
Yaa, I got the D600 back in the day. After about a months use it had the "spots" visible so I took it to the dealer, the young clerk dude was skeptical but took it in for a service. Less than week later I got a mail to pick up my camera, it was cleaned and modified to new spec at no charge. The old seller guy who handed me the camera was clearly quite pissed at nikon for this mess. The whole ordeal was dealt well in my opinion, and didn't really put me off. The spots never showed again either.

In any case, it's a well studied selling tactic to "have something small go wrong" and then deal with the "problem" quickly and professionally. This tactic actually leaves the average customer more satisfied with the company than if the product didn't have any problems in the first place. However this tactic only works in certain type of situations, like business deals.

More like Nikon needs to get their act together and add in features that make live view usable. Even Pentax added OSPDAF to their new APS-C DLSRs. Canon blows the rest of the DSLR market away with theirs. If Nikon doesn't want to add OSPDAF at least they should add focus peaking.

The idea is sound. It's basically copying the A99ii IQ+speed concept.

But something will usually go wrong with the shutter mechanics.

NR said that the D850 is based on D5 rather than D810, so the shutter could be the same. At least I haven't heard of shutter problems with D5 or any Nikon after D600 for that matter.

Nah, Canon will still have more saturated colors in the default profile.

And Canon fanboys will point this out constantly, even though you can easily load any Canon profile into the D850.

Says a man who can't form proper sentences. How ironic.

In any case, let's brake down your comment, just because I'm bored. D810 is currently priced at around $2500 which isn't that expensive for what it is, and D850 is rumoured to be +$1000, which again is right where it should be, pro camera with high mpx count and burst speed. These are not some kids toys.

And then, what has leica and fuji customers to do with any of this? Nothing. Leica caters to mostly wealthy people, who want something well made and luxurious and don't care about price. Most of them couldn't care less about what D850 is rumoured to be. Fuji customers on the other hand typically want a well made and well designed cohesive system that isn't too large, with a nice user experience and a large serving of nostalgia on the side. Again, completely different market.

This is stupid. With a ~50MP sensor they should at least offer a XQD version like the D5 does.
