Someone said that they finished the camera two years ago but decided to postpone it because the 6D still sold well. Not a lot of enthusiasm this time around, also very pricey for what you are getting.

Extra DR is nice to have but not critical. Lower DR won't hurt D5 sales or 6D2 sales despite all the tears on forums. The 6D2 is more camera than 99% of people know what to do with.

Well all I can say is thank God for the fanbois, because they are the ones that buy the first runs to work the bugs out. I have always had a problem with more MPs garbage, and wanted to see them concentrate on the performance, of the chips first, and then put in more pixels. Nikon did that and it was the smart move, because then everyone else ended up having to do the same, there by improving imaging. So in the end I ignore the fans, and just worry about what I get out of my gear.

DR is driven by both pixel architecture and ADC architecture. The meme is that FF sensors will have more DR because of larger pixels, but this meme is bullshit. Example: A7S II with huge pixels (relatively speaking) has 13.3ev while a D7200 has 14.6ev. And before you "hurr durr sony", the D7200 (crop) has more DR than any camera except the D810 (FF).

13.9ev is pretty high on the DxO list. There are about a dozen cameras with greater DR, but most are models that share one of a few sensor designs (i.e. there are three D8x0 entries).

Again, the DR shit posters don't even know how cameras rank or why.

Nikon now has a long history of mechanical issues. I have a friend who shoots pro Nikon. He has complained about shutter oil on the sensor with every Nikon body he has owned/used for 7 years now. Some of them even professionals can't clean. Others have to be regularly cleaned. He bitches every time he stops down for a landscape shot because of the time cloning out oil spots.

I haven't seen a spot on a Canon frame from any body I've owned since Canon introduced self cleaning sensors.

I bought all these A-Mount lenses this week for a song, but my 7xi won't focus any lense with a USM/HSM/SSM instead of screwdrive AF.

Yea, only the a7 and a9 (if it has the upgrade) will autofocus SSM/SAM lenses.

The Xi bodies will work with the few powerzoom Xi lenses. No idea if they are any good, but they might be worth a look.

There is a lot of good screw driven ones though, so it isn't the end of the world.

I saw an a7 for $100 on ebay the other day. Might be worth hunting for one.
