Hello denizens of my favourite photography forum, I've got some snaps for you. Please tell me what you think, be it positive or negative.
>>3116659
i like this one the best. the others feel a bit boring, subject wise
I wanted this to be about the juxtaposition of oldschool + modern windmill, didn't really work out though with such a wide lens..
>>3116667
Yea, I can agree with that.
king kong is a later addition by some guerilla artist
>>3116672

OP why is this your forum of choice again?
>>3116733
it would be faster to list the things that are good about these images because there's so much wrong.
>>3117559
Still not providing any input or constructive criticism. You're cancer. Fuck off. These photos are certainly a little boring and the composition makes it a little hard to determine a subject. However, it's clear that OP knows generally what he wants to capture, he just needs to work on composition. Color and technical aspects of the photos are pretty nice.
They just all seem really bland. It's like looking at pictures of a random building on any other city.
>>3116659
Be more selective with your subject matter. Photography has a lot to do with reducing unnecessary elements. Also fix your perspective. e.g:

I agree with this post, that image is definitely my favourite it has a really nice glassy sharpness to it, the others seem a bit dulled as I am unable to remove myself from your point of view at street level considering your subjects are above you.
>>3116671
For example, take an image like this one. The subject is interesting and coupled with the nice contrasts in the colours it would be a lovely image however the fact that the monolith is thicker at the bottom and thinner at the top due to the nature of your y-axis and your point of view detracts from the visual strength of it.
One way to remedy this would be to stand on a park-bench or anything to elevate yourself and give the impression of a more removed / objective point of view.
Let me know if that doesn't make any sense but good job man, keep it up.
I do also really like this one: >>3116669
>>3118012
Stand by this crop, that helps the image profusely.

I feel a little bad about cropping 2652 × 1768 wide angle pictures but I guess it should be okay, since I'm not going to print them anyway.
Also I'm a bit conflicted about perspective correction but in this and >>3118063 it does look a lot nicer.
>>3118052
Thanks, helpful advice.
>>3118060
Thanks anon.
Guess I'll post a few holiday pics next.
These are from Timisoara, Romania by the way.
>>3118063
how do you do this oh wise man
>>3118417
He uses snapseed judging by the exif, but you can also do it in photoshop using the perspective crop tool.
Slovenia
>>3118665
to crop or not to crop?
I feel real stupid about the botched symmetry now..
>>3118063
Doing this alters an image drastically, if you can't naturally obtain a perspective that creates symmetry then don't simulate it, you're just creating a photo you couldn't take within your human means which I personally find a bit of a cop out.
I like the composition and colours of many of these.
>>3116677
Not sure if this one would be cooler without the head.
>>3118696
You could get the same results without post-processing using a tilt-shift lens.
alright I'll tell you what I think, so I will write everything using absolutes but it will really be my opinion most of the time
>>3116659
I think this one is a nice concept that could have been executed better
the cranes make this picture because they attract attention and direct it towards a more or less common point, it looks kinda like an exercise in perspective, thought the blue crane at middle distance and the red one are a bit bent, so the effect is lessened
then the boat's mast is in the way
then I'd have made the cranes stand up a bit more (using whatever method in post)
>>3116662
I think this one has nothing interesting, the subject is a pretty common sight from a pretty common angle
>>3116664
same here
maybe the triangles might have made an interesting picture if taken from another angle
>>3116666
same as above
>>3116668
the old windmill doesn't stand out enough, you should have taken this from a closer distance so to put it in the sky above the green instead of almost burying it in the green
>>3116669
next time you have the urge to make a picture b/w ask yourself, what does this photo gain by being b/w instead of colored?
if you can't think of anything objective (for example, "it makes it more interesting/deep/vintage" doesn't mean anything) then I suggest you keep the colors, else you risk looking pretentious other than boring
>>3116671
nothing stands out really
>>3116673
same as before, a pretty common sight from a pretty common angle
>>3116677
see the thing above about b/w
>>3116682
if you want to make things stand out make them really stand out
you want to make that structure in the middle stand out?
crop out or don't get the trees in your shot, they're a distraction, wait for the clouds to be more even, or for them to go away, or at least for them to paint a plain, uniform background behind your subject
>>3116687
it kinda seems that you want to take pictures of stuff, you take pictures that have said stuff in it, and with that you also catch a hell of a lot of stuff that doesn't mean anything and only distracts the viewer
for example here, the building in the middle might be interesting, there's blue above and below and green at the sides, but you also caught some flags and stuff on the left
also the main focus of a picture is more easily found/understood if it's bigger
>>3118395
still, a pretty common sight from a pretty common angle
not common in the sense that I see that stuff everyday, but in the sense that I could if I walked a couple minutes, it has nothing particular, nothing peculiar, and the angle from which is taken is so normal it doesn't make anything stand out
>>3118397
same thing as with the other vertical structure with the clouds
>>3118460
this is nicer, more interesting, my attention goes somewhere, the picture is balanced (if in a simple way - a good part of it is symmetrical relative to both axis, but it's p good still)
yeah I like this, a lot of pics are only symmetrical relative to an axis but this looks more interesting, plus the building breaks that and makes it less "boring", less "the same everywhere"
I'd say it'd gain by being more symmetrical in a way - if the trees were more uniform on both the left and right
>>3118462
>>3118464
more pretty common sights from a pretty common angle
>>3118660
a bit less common, but pretty much the same as above
>>3118662
again, try to reduce the things that you don't care about, like that thing at the bottom, or the other buildings
>>3118664
>>3118665
if you gotta do this make sure the orientation is proper, and still these are p much the same thing as above
>>3118905
Thanks for your comments

Fair points about the clutter and stuff.
I started out photographing with a 75mm equiv. lens and these are all shot with 28mm equiv.. Maybe I should just try a nifty fifty for once heh.

diff guy to who posted before but amsterdam is an incredibly difficult city to photograph well
sure it has old buildings but the actual city itself is mostly dark greys, reds and greens and is actually not aesthetic at all for photography.. had the same problem when I lived there.
>>3121652
mostly agree
I do like the canals tho, and some of the more modern buildings are ok
now I feel like posting amsterdam pics that I took and liked (by no means are they good, I just liked them)
starting with an overly processed one

my bigger issue, really, is that the city is mainly made up of tourists
I am an utter noob without a doubt, but I feel it makes it way more difficult to attempt any kind of street photo when all the subjects are people that have no relation to the place they are in, and are only taking pictures with their smartphones; everyone is awfully normie looking too
but anyway
this is where I still live so gotta make it work somehow (tips more than welcome)

not gonna cheat and post stuff from other cities, so I'll make this the last one
and to give some feedback to OP on the ones I liked:
>>3118664
this would've been even better with a kind of tilt-shift effect, but I like it regardless; maybe a tad more exposed too
>>3118393
it's ironic that I'm originally from Romania
Timisoara is probably one of the better places to go to, Transylvania too
>>3118462
this would've been a promising poverty-tourism opportunity
>>3116668
I get what you were going for, but I think it just wasn't made to be; the lower half of the picture is too under-exposed, and the windmill kinda fades into the greenery because of that and the fact you were too far away
maybe with a more zoomed in view or a better crop it would deliver the message a bit better
basically what >>3118012 said; I tried thinking about this more before shooting after having been told the same a while back and it helps a lot; it also makes you much more aware of what it is that you actually want to show in your picture
oh and I love the colors/mood of the OP pic
