How is the Sony a6000? I'm currently using a Pentax Q and I'm a bit tired of its bad quality sometimes. The photos usually look worse than my iphone. Especially when using it for making a video.
Is the a6000 the way to go? I want something not too big so I can easily bring it wherever I go.
>>3111044
The Sony is too advanced for you.
Just take my word for it.
>>3111046
Explain pls
>>3111044
Yeah, probably the best price:performance camera. Can't go wrong with it.
The a6000 is a technically outstanding camera for the price but completely soulless to use. Something about Sony's UI/UX is just so bland.
Sony glass is also a mixed bag. Their good stuff is hideously expensive and the shit stuff is really shit. There's no glass at the right sort of price point to pair with the a6000. You either pay out the nose for the good stuff and set yourself up for buying an A7 or you buy shitty glass and under-utilise the cameras mad specs.

If you adapt vintage lenses it puts a LOT of soul into it, it makes it as much fun as an actual film camera almost. Plus the Sigma lenses for the a6000 are pretty cheap.
OP just buy a used a6000 body off Amazon for 400 (its brand new basically) and adapt some old fast 50mm lens to it. It'll hone in your technique and put out some great photos. I suggest the 50mm 1.4 FD canon
Bought an A6000 a couple of months ago and have been having fun trying out different vintage lenses on it.
Just bought a vintage Carl Ziess Sonnar 135mm f3.5 lens that is actually 200mm due to the crop factor of the APS-C sensor.
Also bought a non vintage Samyang 12mm f2 wide angle lens which is pretty good.
>>3111044
I just bought the a6000 a few days ago for $420 on eBay brand new.
Bought a sigma 60mm f2.8 lens too for 160$ used.
Can't beat the price for the quality. The electronic vf makes learning exposure easy for newbies like me.
OP here. Thanks for all the insights and advices. I might even get 200 for the Pentax Q and some lenses, so I guess it's a good deal and worth it. I'm even in Japan in some weeks where, I guess, it's even cheaper to buy.

that or a Panasonic GX85
unless your a pro, the shortcomings of the m43 sensor isn't going to hamper you too much, especially in video, and it's not like ASP-C is a whole lot bigger anyway.
plus you can shoot constantly with the GX85 without worrying about overheating (which is one of the gripes against Sony cameras)

The A7(R) II or A9 is better and not really actually bigger if you select the lenses well.
But if you don't want to pay some, the A6000 is surely a good choice.

It's actually the lenses that are critical to your image quality.
Here is my three favourite lenses on that system:
>Rokinon(Samyang) 12mm F2,0
Fucking fantastic lens, equivalent to 18mm on Full frame. It's a proper mirrorless lens that's half the weight of its SLR counterparts, but showcase better image quality and next to no distortion compared to the 14mm Samyang. It's purely manual focus, but ultra wide angles are far more easy to manual focus than longer lenses so it's perfectly acceptable.
>Sigma 30mm F1,4
Same as the above, it's actually half the weight of Sigma's own SLR 30mm for crop sensor SLRs.
45mm equivalent on Full Frame.
>Sony 85mm F1,8
This is the poor man's Zeiss Batis copy, it's a 98% clone of the Zeiss Batis 85, and because of that it's nearly indistinguishable from the real product. (This is actually a Full Frame lens, unlike the other two, but it's small and light enough to be useable for the A6000)
128mm equivalent on Full Frame.
They are not ultra cheap like the Sigma F2,8 trio, but they are the best the system can get in my opinion.

You're full of shit my man.
I got the a6000 with the sigma 1.4 and it's a pretty cool set.
You can get almost anything done on this camera given that you know how to properly expose and compose. I don't think I'm gonna upgrade anytime soon because I haven't fully used it to its potential.
You probably won't need a camera better than this unless you're doing ultra low light shots or stuff with sports.

Sigma F1,4 for people who wants that extra stop of light and don't care about upgrading to full frame.
Sony 28mm F2 for people who want to eventually upgrade, or people who want the full AF coverage on the camera.
They are both very comparable lenses.
>>3112719
In low light the Sony has OSS so it's still better.
>>3111044
the camera itself is good and it has completely replaced a DSLR for me. The Sony glass is pretty meh, but if you have old manual glass to adapt it cam be alright. I dissagree with >>3111173 though, its still pretty soulless.
the Speed Booster is real nice and it really makes me wonder why anyone would bother with a Fool Frame in 2017.

I don't like this meme about stabilisation making a cam better in low light.

isnt the sigma significantly sharper? if you believe the dxomark charts it should make a huge difference especially when wide open

Is the zhongyi lens turbo still recommended these days? Many reviews say that the mount to the camera doesn't fit well. I don't want to ruin my lens.
>>3113483
>Many reviews say that the mount to the camera doesn't fit well
I think that was a problem with the original version. The lens turbo ii is the updated version.

don't know, I use the Metabones and it is great
I also have cheep adapters (non speed boosters) for M and and F mount, just try them out before you buy them, the local camera store I go to is pretty good that way but I won't say what Camera Store I go to
>>3113030
I use my a6000 every day and get good results.
For occasional soul boosts I use a 1970s 35mm rangefinder with some out of date film that I develop myself.
I don't even use a clock for my developing. I time it with cigarettes. I don't even smoke usually.
Yeah.
>>3113569
What's the point of buying a $500 adapter? That's paying more than most decent primes already.
>>3113741
it is probably more important than your lens
a bad adapter can introduce all sorts of lens flair and ghosting
you already get a lot more lens flair with the metabones than just the lens alone, I can only imagine how a cheap adapter would preform
>>3113483
lens turbo ii.
no it won't ruin your lens.
why would it?
>>3114811
500 metabuns + 500 camera.
just get an a7 retard.
>>3114817
I woulda gone with the a7 had it worked with my 21mm Elmarit but the camera is shit with even slightly wide Leica glass. I only use the metabones and Nikkor glass for video where the boost to my 50mm 1.4 is pretty nice seeing as the 1.2 is stupidly expensive and hard to come by.
>>3111254
>I'm even in Japan in some weeks where, I guess, it's even cheaper to buy.
Just so you know, the Japanese version is Japanese-only, it can't be set to English UI.

>>3111751
>Rokinon(Samyang) 12mm F2,0
has someone tried the 16mm f2.0? I think about buying one for wide angle shots and video, but there are very little tests on that specific lens.
>>3115802
That is not a mirrorless lens. It's an older SLR lens, and is more than twice the weight of the 12mm F2,0.
I haven't seen tests of it, but I will bet you it has the same amounts of distortion issues the 14mm Rokinon has.
>>3115806
oh wow i thought the 14mm and 16mm where from the same line as the 12mm one because prize and aperture where in the same range but you're totally right, these are more than twice as heavy. is the quality of the 12mm really that much better? 12mm is a little wide and 16mm sounds so comfy.
MILC Rokinon/Samyang lenses are undoubtedly better than SLR ones, it's like they're made in another factory.
>>3116640
>is the quality of the 12mm really that much better?
Anything wide angle gives mirrorless designs massive advantages over slr designs even when the slr lens has twice the weight worth of optics.
We have recently seen a lot of examples that confirm this. Most recently the 12-24 F4 G zoom lens. It's half the weight of the Canon/Sigma equivalent, but is sharper than them across the whole frame.
>>3115797
Whatever the lens mount type is. For example just google "canon FD to Sony e mount adapter" and click on a link. (Amazon is the cheapest)
Bought this one today, its my first camera
Im glad I got it, I immediately feel like it's going to more fun than my canon s160 point & shoot

iso 100 - 1/250s
gives you equivalent exposures, but go for the second one for obvious quality reasons, it's sufficient for your lens. btw its a good idea to keep the eyes in focus most of the time, so if you want to also show more of your cute doggos nose, stop down or step back.

i own the sony 35 1.8 and its pretty decent. you get some muh bokeh which is always cheering at the start, and has good low light performance. its not that sharp wide open but sufficient for portraits which is what you neet wide open for most of the time. good sharpness stopped down a little and very sharp at 5.6. i especially like the smallness and weight and the fast autofocus is important for most beginners probably. for technical reasons i'd go for the sigma though because i dont really need the fastes af possible or oss. from benchmarks the optical quality seems superior. downside: much heavier and bigger so if you shoot street or want to carry 24/7 you think about the size.
seriously get the best lens you can afford instead of two bad ones even at the start - especially when it's around 50mm equivalent. both lenses are fine.
