any self-respecting mft shooter would get a GX85 over it tbqhwy
>>3104810
GX85 owner here, I actually liked Pen F more but srsly fuck that price
>>3104603
I don't give a shit about what people shoot with, but the M43s mentality is weird. It's claimed that m43s makes cameras smaller and more compact, when in fact they're not that small, or compact. And the price doesn't justify the quality of raw image files, or the low light performance. I'm amazed this sensor size still exists.
>>3104960
Regardless of body size, the lenses are still small. Native FF mirrorless lenses are mostly huge. APS-C mirrorless lenses aren't as big, but are still bigger than m43.
>>3104960
I don't know how Oly gets by anymore (brand name recognition?) but Panasonic cameras are great for video, where sensor size is not as important, and many people still prefer them over Sony

Sure, I think APS-C is the best go-between because the size is excellent and so are the lenses.
I can get why >>3104968 likes video, sure then that isn't a problem.
>>3104971
Well actually I'm amateur as they come and RAW files are really good to take a badly taken photo with good composition and rescue it.
PEN is quite a lot smaller than the XPro2 especially with 50mm equiv lenses.
I have to mention the IBIS on the PEN as well as it's the best I've ever used. 1/3 second hand held with no problems.

I'm the guy who was considering trading my X100F for a PEN and I'm definitely not doing it. The silent shutter of the X100F is so useful; I just got back from a little stroll around a local book fair and it was pretty quiet in there. Although the PEN F is quiet, silent is just an absolute winner. A 50mm lens would've been too tight as well.
X100 series is just the perfect camera for me. I need to get rid of this fucking GAS.

Pen F has a silent shutter mode. Like so quiet you wouldn't know you were taking a picture if you didn't see the viewfinder flicker.
>>3105021
1/3 second is the equivalent of 1/60 for a real camera. kek
>>3105043
Of all the parts you could make fun of, you chose the shutter speed that is the same regardless of what platform it is on.
If anything the shutter will be faster on the pen f because you can get a bigger depth of field with a more open aperture and the lowest ISO on an Pen F is 200.
>>3104960
>when in fact they're not that small, or compact
But they are indeed more compact. All of the larger-format cameras of similar physical size to my GX85 lack EVF, flip screen, and/or IS.
>>3104968
>I don't know how Oly gets by anymore (brand name recognition?)
Well, despite most of their consumer cameras being kinda crap at the moment, they make the news fairly often with high-end gear so people do indeed know them. Also, since X-mount isn't very popular among 3rd parties for some reason and Sony doesn't give a shit about crop E-mount anymore, m43 has the most comprehensive native lens selection of all mirrorless systems.
>>3104960
Hey dingus, it's the lenses that are smaller.
>>3104960
>or the low light performance
be honest: how often do you actually find yourself shooting ISO 6400+? and regardless of your answer, i don't think most people generally go over 1600 maybe ever

until the GH5, the PEN-F was the best MFT out there (arguably still is considering the MFT ethos)
>>3105352
GH5 is the size of a fucking slr and costs $2,000
>>3105360
hence that parenthetical
the GH5 is pretty much a video camera masquerading as a stills camera, too, but at least that sort of justifies it's size and price tag (unlike the E-M1)
>>3105058
>lowest ISO on an Pen F is 200
this is true on all MFT cameras, right? why can't they do ISO 100
>>3105676
I think it has to do with the iso range. Something about making them have iso 100 would take away from the top of the iso range and M43 needs better performance at the top of the iso range.
I'm actually considering a PEN-F since I bought into m4/3 with a G7 a couple years ago. is there anything actually bad about it?
>>3104606
Ya but it has the RED DOT
>>3105058
>lowest ISO on an Pen F is 200.
Does m4/3 do the same ISO cheat as Fuji?
>>3106006
Mainly the price. It's a solid camera, but it's hard to justify dropping $1000+ on a m43 body with no special features beyond retro looks (i.e. there's no high bitrate video, 4K, pro AF, weather sealing, etc). You can get pretty much the same from E-M10II for 1/2 of the price or GX85 for 2/3.
>>3106008
>it's even more expensive without the red dot
>>3105676
It's a sensor design thing, dependent on primary analog amplification on the sensor. If you lower that to 100, you get slightly more noise across the ISO range since the sensor outputs a weaker and thus more noise-prone signal. For m43 with its small photosites and difficult sensor thermal management due to IS, it's not acceptable.
Some m43 cameras can do ISO 100, but they do it the same way 5DmkI does ISO 50 - by applying -1 EV correction digitally, which means no extra highlight recovery compared to shooting at higher ISO.
>>3106013
Fuji doesn't "cheat" per se, they just exploit the lack of a real standard on sensitivity measurement for digital sensors.
>>3106042
It's ironic how it's called ISO and yet no standard..
>>3106006
I loved my PEN F but sold it for an X100T mainly for the viewfinder and the slight reduction in size. Given the choice of XPro2 and PEN F I'd go PEN every time.

I have a G85 but looking at these two as an EDC camera as the G85 is a bit too big for that. Which do you prefer?
I've done a little research and though the E-M10 is cheaper, it's slightly bigger (taller than the GX85 but just as thin) and seems to be a bit finicky with Panny lenses according to some users (mainly slower AF with a few even saying it doesn't correct CA or distortion; the Panny 20mm f1.7 was particularly singled-out and that's exactly the lens I would slap on it). On the flipside, the GX85 is criticized for its EVF and is $100-200 more expensive. Plus, better video and Dual-IS isn't that significant for what I need in this case (though those features wouldn't hurt ofc).
tl;dr better IQ: E-M10 mk. II or GX85?

I'd go with the Oly, unless you really want a second 4K capable video camera

>seems to be a bit finicky with Panny lenses according to some users
You'll only get OIS or IBIS, not both
The 20/1.7 reportedly causes banding on the 16 MP Sony sensor.
>the GX85 is criticized for its EVF
Try it in person. Most people don't see the rainbow shimmer. It's certainly not as nice as the Olympus ones in size though.
I'd say the extra money for the GX85 is worth it to have better and more plentiful Dual IS (compared to only the 300/4 and 12-100/4), better video, better controls, a higher tier body, and better UI.
>>3106753
>better and more plentiful Dual IS
I moved from E-P5 to GX85 and even dual IS (with the 12-32) is only about as effective as pure IBIS was on the Oly, with single IS being worse - I can never get a sharp image at 1/2s anymore.
Also, I don't see how it's a higher tier body compared to E-M10, it's decently made for a consumer camera but nothing remarkable.
>>3106272
E-M10II is not that much smaller than G85, it's not as fat, but still fairly tall and has the fake prism, so I'd recommend GX85 for EDC. The EVF may not be too nice, but it's perfectly usable, and with a camera this small you're probably gonna use the screen in most cases.

Panasonic doesn't have PDAF either, but somehow their cameras don't fail this miserably.

Because the poured a ton of money into developing their DFD CDAF shit. It's slightly improved CDAF but still dogshit compared to PDAF.
