Does anyone on this fucking board have friends?
I swear nobody posts portraits here, it's just fucking buildings. That's not good photography, you subject has no emotion or personality. It's lame and wack.
Why is there so much architecture photography on this board?
>>3102977
I don't like posting pictures of people I know to a forum with a bunch of bitter anons who will tear them apart on the basis of their appearance, and on a bad day, might try to dox them.
>>3102979
Yea that's kinda why I don't post my photos here as the anonymus style doesn't work with my hyper personal work.
That being said recent photos is just "har har grass, and books on a dlsr"
>>3102979
Basically, this...
I purposely leave out any photos that have an identifiable person in them. Sucks, because I'd really like to improve my portraits...
>>3102977
I think portraits are gay and I don't like staged shit.
>>3103000
It's more interesting than buildings.
>>3103003
Show me a portrait that's more interesting than buildings.
>>3102977
i know right? why do people like the things that they like and not the things that you like? surely this must be one of the great injustices of our time
>>3102977
Honestly, I have so many friends who shoot photographs of their friends touching their elbows and necks and looking all smiley or sad for no apparent reason that I can't take portraits seriously any longer. I'm legit tired of seeing pictures of people aged 16-24 grabbing their bodies and playing with their hair for no reason at all. Lame, lame, lame.
>>3102977
taking photos is my autistic safe space
>>3103016
i bet you hate the back of person in a huge landscape meme. i hate that shit too. vapid, cliched, languid, shit.
>>3102977
A building can be more than a portrait. Done right, a place made by humans can be touched and effected by many lives. Places soak up the energy and the intent of the humans that occupy them, and in turn they become something more.
In other words, a warehouse sitting on a street corner rotting isn't just a collection of shitty cinder blocks. It was the hopes and dreams of some forgotten company, or the the site of a murder or, something more banal.
We create places, but they influence and create us in turn too.
>>3103026
time to bring up this puppy to this thread.
>>3102977
I have a fair number of friends and I take pretty frequent photos of them. I don't feel comfortable posting pictures of my friends on 4chan, so I typically keep it to pictures of the outdoors / architecture.
>>3103027
>To give you a bit more context, the term “Thomasson” was actually coined by Japanese artist Genpei Akasegawa. Back in 1972, Akasegawa came across a lone staircase that went up and then back down but had no door at the top. But then he noticed something even stranger: the railing had recently been fixed. With an eyebrow raised, the artist started seeing these oddities all over the city and started publishing them in a weekly magazine column with a few words describing what he found. Others who followed Akasegawa musings started sending him their own images, and in 1985 Akasegawa published a book of these photographs and writings, in which he called “Thomassons.” His criteria for inclusion was pretty simple. He asked: 1. Was the object at hand completely and utterly useless?; and 2. Was it being maintained?
>The word “Thomasson” itself can be traced back to Gary Thomasson, an American baseball player who was traded to Tokyo’s Yomiuri Giants. Thomasson was paid a handsome sum for a two-year contract, but failed to perform as his managers had hoped. As a result, he was benched for most his contract; In the eyes of Akasegawa, Thomasson was both “useless” and “maintained.”
>>3103029
kind of cool
>>3103024
Yes, yes I do.
>>3102977
There's literally a portrait thread on the front page now dweebus.
>>3102977
I don't post recognizable photos of people on /p/. There's a bit of trust that feels like it's being violated by posting to this site.
>>3103045
Yeah, why would you post portraits on the only photography forum on the Internet dedicated to degrading each other?
>>3103010
Don't be dense lad.
>>3103011
No anyone can take a picture of a building and edit it it takes no skill it takes skill to shoot people

My question is, is life still worth living if you don't fulfill some fantastic destiny? A life where you don't catch the attention of others? Because 'good' shouldn't depend on society's eyes, especially not for a hobbyist. Actually, many great photographers often didn't pander too well to society's eyes either. They found what -they- liked, and they made it popular, because they sought to perfection only that which was relevant to their particular vision. Society's 'good' changes all the time. I see so many people quit photography because they begin to worry what other people think of their work. Competition in photography is probably the gayest thing I've ever seen, simply because in order to compete, you have to give up what your own taste to adopt standard measures so that comparison between works is possible. Is photography worth making if no one sees it? If music worth making if no one hears it? Is literature worth writing if no one reads it? Only if you find your own value in it. Only if you value life for what it is, and not for what others tell you it ought to be.
>>3103066
also sorry for typos I'm sleep deprived.
tl;dr it's better not to give a shit what other people think about your work, cause the likelihood that all your effort to please them will end up frustrating you, and cause they' and all their children gonna die anyway and their standards will die with them.
I take photos of my friends all the time, really good for trying out new equipment or techniques

Friends I have two that are what I consider as that, the rest are acquaintances, of which tons of them.
>>3102979

Also I like doing landscapes, macros, and wildlife it is how I relax after a long week of work.
>>3103000
Prime example of why I never show people photos here.
>>3103026
I agree.
Which is why I tend to shoot 99% abandoned buildings, and seek out Ghost towns. When I retire I want to hit up what is left of Hwy 66 towns, and Dust Bowl towns that died.

well, that's true, at least some of the time
The women I know, that let me photograph them, have some bad teeth. I would never put pictures of them up to be ridiculed. My guy friends just don't like having their pictures taken.

I agree with most of these but nobody on /p/ gets doxed aside from tripfags who have a certain attitude.
>>3102981
Yes, but you are a special attention whore. I'm not trying to talk down to you like everyone else here, I think it's ok to have no sense of shame and be an attention whore, but still that's not really why most people come to this anonymous site.
>>3103070
shoulda used a rim light on the right to not let him blend into the background (unless you did this on purpose)
not bad tho
>>3102977
If you post a woman on this shite board, guaranteed replies are: some will take her appearance apart to the smallest detail even if she's above average looking, some will keep asking about "did u fucc her lol" and there will be some "the pose is awkward" (I swear this is a part of every portrait thread, even if the poses are alright) and little useful comments since most better portrait retouchers an photographers have left /p/ a while ago.

Well
I had friends until they found out I came to 4Chan's /p, and then my family disowned me when my ex-friends told them.

I have plenty of friends, they just largely have self esteem issues and the ones who don't aren't close enough for me to say "lol lemme take your picture." I've just BARELY gotten my girlfriend to sit still for pictures, but she only ever does it when I don't have my camera, and she likes to go through and delete them because of self-image issues

Faggot that pictures not even focused properly. Whoever took that picture clearly has no skill, maybe they'd learn something by photographing a static building instead of setting up edgy shots with their poorfag friends. Bet its shot on a Sony.
