Someone posted this pic as an example of great composition. Could somebody explain why?
The shapes and contrast don't really lead my eye through the scene and I can't make out any interesting geometric shapes, leading lines, whatever. Just looks like a plain old B&W picture with a dutch angle to me.
What am I missing here?

I like its composition -- I think the strength being the good contrast between the silhouetted tree (which creates negative space immediately drawing you to the figures on the sidewalk) and then the strong highlights in the bottom third. The people make for great subjects since there's a number of separate things going on, which is emphasized by none of them being in the same light. Nothing's really wasted in it, the stately home and the doorman, the car, the woman, the lurker in the back, and the group of dudes are all distinct and create the scene together.
