Somewhat what this anon said, but not even that dirty to be honest, maybe a little in some not-so-safe neighborhoods such as Rione Sanità, where I took photos of the cemetery. The actual downtown is safe and clean, hell public transportation and stations are cleaner and way cheaper than Milan. People were nice and passionate, eager to help. Food is an experience and quite a trip on its own. Traffic is a mess, I strongly discourage moving with a car. I had an apartment facing the most congested intersection in the city (Museo), the place was crumbling outside but quite well restored inside. You may have a hard time falling asleep.
