Not sure what do you mean. It might depend on where you are and social circles and so on, but trying to do good portrait/nude work is hard and takes time. And there are a lot of other things that are hard and take time that I also do and they just seem more rewarding, at least right now.

Paying them always helps. Building your portfolio while shooting women with their clothes on will build valuable experience for when you're paying them to take their clothes off, and once you git gud enough, you can get some to take their clothes off without having to pay them.

I did all the time - but I think that I passed the age where it went from "Hey, was fun everyone! Let's go get drinks after. Friend me on Facebook" to "Is it cool if I took a guy friend to the shoot - and I gotta be out by 8pm."

The models who ask to bring a guy friend make it easy to tell which ones to avoid.

Word travels fast if you make inappropriate advances on models. It can be the end of a nice hobby, at least. A seminude/nude shoot is a situation where the model is already somewhat vulnerable and which she put herself into with the trust that you're not going to do anything weird.

Keep shoots and dates separate.

I used to do quite a bit. Nothing professional just something to fill time and I took to it quite well. I haven't done any in a while because like everyone else here I kinda just lost the motivation to.

May sound like a dumb question but: how do you find models that are willing to do nude? Do you pay them? Where do you find them? Also how are you making them comfortable? I'm not a creepy guy and women usually trust me with problems, I just don't see myself asking that.

Model Mayhem, Craigslist, Instagram, friends of friends. If they've modeled before, you can tell from their photos, usually, whether they'll do nude. Or you put out an ad asking for models. You will find models most easily if you offer pay, but if you build up a good enough portfolio (non-nude or nude), you can sometimes find models who will do nude for free.

I make them comfortable by communicating a lot, making sure they see that I've shot with a lot of other models (who are tagged in my photos and can be contacted on IG), and making sure they have as much agency and decision-making in the process as makes sense. And it's part of my demeanor to make somebody comfortable, I guess.

Porn doesn't work like that. You're not there to get each other off, you're there to make photos to get the viewer off. If the model is wet for a softcore photo, she's wet because the photo calls for it.

It's a job just like anything else. Synergy and mutual attraction between model and photographer helps, sure, but that's true of a lot of jobs. It doesn't mean you fuck on the job, and photographers wear clothes because their sexuality is not what's on display.

"casting couch" and POV stuff can be different in that way, sure.

If you want to shoot and fuck, hire a model on those terms or find a friend who wants to play.

In gonzo porn where you are the photographer and the hired dick and the models are all hookers anyway, maybe.

With sites like the two you mentioned there will be stills and video shooters on set along with assistants to move reflectors about. There will also be make-up artists and wardrobe hovering behind you.

Those kind of shoots are hard work. You are paying your models a lot of money so you need a strong saleable set of pics and video at the end of it. If you just want to get your rocks off go to a hooker.

You have to start following people who are into that and follow their chains of reblogs until you find somebody in your area. Sometimes people who mainly post self-portraits (often nude, often without faces) are down for working with other photographers. Craigslist/Model Mayhem/Instagram are more efficient ways to find models.

I'm not on Fetlife personally, but I know of other photographers who are.

Pay them, look for semi-professional models, avoid working with friends etc. unless you want to use the situation for "seducing" them or some shit. Always, ALWAYS have a third person present when taking nude pictures (like stylist or a female asistant, your friend or something) - helps with the tension, it's always easier if you have a girl asistant and you wanna help your model with hair or something (not all models will be thrilled with you touching them).
Also, and I can't stress this enough - it's a good to have a witness in case you happen to work with a psycho bitch that would like to accuse you of rape for fun or to extort money from you.
If you don't have an assistant and you need to work with a model you don't know - record the whole session on a webcam or spare camera. Yes, it's illegal to record someone without their consent but it's still BETTER than beeing accused of rape. Or you can just have them agree to record the session.
