Congrats on the DSLR! You've got a lot of fun ahead of you. The second photo is focused better. It's easy to shoot around the house, so make sure to get outside and shoot some, even if you're not quite comfortable with your camera yet (or your surroundings). It'll make you a better photographer.

The technique used for those vivid shots is to take a photo of the stars as I did and then another of the foreground and then compose them together.

You might wanna invest in a tripod and/or remote shutter to help reduce any shaking.

I was lucky enough to have a tripod given to me and a remote shouldn't cost any more than $20.

Crop all that empty space on the left. Negative/empty space sometimes works well in photographs like this, but it's throwing off the balance of the scene too much. Maybe even consider portrait orientation.

I should be taking more pics... I never go outside. This was a shot I took after working (as a photographer). I never done night shots but now I got a 6D it's way easier to shoot in the dark (without a tripod).

I love stuff like this. How can I push myself getting out more? I feel like shit sometimes so I'd rather stay inside.

Even if we leave the artistic value aside, you managed to fuck up a landscape pic that SCREAMS for infinity focus on a wide-ass lens at f/8, which requires a very special type of stupid in order to completely go out of your way and focus like you did coupled with a completely inapropriate ISO for an overcast day.
