Took a few shots over the weekend with the amazing weather we had.
Also I have to thank a few anons from my last few threads. Some people had asked me if I had any plans to go back to Japan in the near future, and I had said no. But it got me thinking. So I put in for PTO on Monday and bought tickets last night. Leaving the Friday after next. I was originally going to go to the Balkans but checked flights to Japan last minute and found a crazy deal I couldn't pass up. I'll be spending a few days in HK too.
Super excited, can't wait to finally have a reason to shoot some 645 Portra again.

newfag here, really digging the colors, did you edit them in post or what?
>>3060235
Nah I just use VSCO
>>3060235
That other guy wasn't me. I've never used VSCO, but maybe some of what you're referring to with the colors is actually the tones. When I shoot, I generally underexpose by about a stop and then bring up the shadows by a stop in Lightroom. That gives me an extra stop of dynamic range and more closely mimics Portra, which is what I'd ideally be using if only I had the time.
If you're new and looking for tips I'd start by trying something like that. Always focus on stuff you can do pre- and during shooting instead of relying on post. Post is a bandaid for when you didn't do the other things right. The more you can do before post, the better photographer you'll be.

HA
Have fun in Japan OP, you must have a pretty sweet job for PTO and leisure trips...
>>3060282
Thanks. It's not bad. Unlimited PTO but a lot of people abused it last year so now they limit us to max 2 weeks at a time. I only took 4 days last year as I'm working my ass off to make senior, and was hoping to have 'saved up' enough (even though it's unlimited) to take 4 weeks this year for Japan without raising any euebrows. Waited too long apparently so I'm stuck with 2. Still super excited though, have been dying to get back ever since I went for the first time back in 2012.
>>3060286
Woah thats badass man. Where all are you trying to visit this time?
Also I see your GR, are you the anon that made a thread with shots of Boston? Dark buildings and snow?
Are you British?
These Ricoh + vsco photos look the same over and over to me
ill be in Tokyo also from the 3rd of may for well deserved 2 weeks of nothing but torys highballs
Complete amateur here but I'm gonna try to make some points anyway
>>3060148
I have no idea what you're trying to show me, but nice colors.
>>3060150
Too bland.
>>3060153
Lines leading to the center and then there's nothing there. It's a setup without a subject.
>>3060154
Looks good. Lot of different geometric shapes in a nice composition.
>>3060157
Should be symmetrical.
>>3060302
>Yep
Hell yeah that set rocked. HK and Tokyo sounds great for that stuff. As someone said in that last thread you captured the ~american Gotham City~ vibe really well so it will be cool to see if you get a sweet asian cyberpunk feel going..
Have fun dude!
>>3060567 #
Thanks, disagree with your last point though. I work with symmetry a lot and it tends to make the image or subject rather stale. Going slightly asymmetrical generally lends a bit of action to the frame which I like.
>>3060591
Thanks man. To give you an idea of what I'm looking to shoot over there here's my Flickr set of images I took the last time I was over there:

Just got back from a trip from Hong Kong and mainland China and some of my cityscapes look very similiar to yours. I used a Bronica ETRS w/ 50, 75 and 150mm lenses, what did you use for your HK photos??
>>3060637
Your page is awesome, Im looking forward to seeing your new pics. Also do you only shoot with the GR?
>>3060959
Thanks. Generally all 3:4 aspect ratio pics were taken on a GS645S, and the 2:3 pics on a Minolta SLR. All Portra.
>>3060963
Thanks. Nowadays I just use the GR around town, but I'll be bringing the aforementioned cameras with me again and will being doing most of my serious shooting with them.
>>3060964
They look great, I'll make a thread when I receive all the negatives back from my developer - hopefully you'll be around to give me some pointers.
>>3060968
For sure, I'll be around when I get back. Sounds good.
