I got my first DSLR yesterday and want you guys to critique the photos I've taken so far, hopefully I can learn a lot very fast by doing this.
These were all taken in Tula de Allende, Mexico.

This church was build in 1543 as some sort of fortress. It even had secret tunnels.

It's like any other shitty touristy "I was there" picture without any merit.
Stop with the lol Manual meme, switch that thing in Tv 1/60s to 1/250s depending on light and motion or Av wide open or f/8 depending on light and how much DOF you want and look for a clear subject and place it in a nice composition. Look at other photos for inspiration.
Expect to shoot thousands of shots until you are starting to show improvement. Also try to critique your own shots, ask yourself what you like about your photo and shoot accordingly next time.

I've been to this city, and it's incredibly beautiful
>>3054430
However, this dude is right. Sorry bro but these images just look flat and boring.
Those buildings are so full of color man, you need to make them pop, the city is very much alive, try and capture the life and color next time senpai
>>3054430
I see, thanks. Can you give some advice? Is it mainly the subject, or mainly technical stuff? I assume it's both but I'm not sure how so.
>>3054431
Now this could be a better shot if it wasn't horribly overexposed and shot a bit wider. There are some signs of composition here, but overall not a good a photo.
>>3054436
Oh, that's cool.. I especially liked this one but I see now it could've been much better. Thanks.

Pretty nice pictures
>>3054432
Thanks for the advice, I figured they'd be shit even if they look nice to me right now, so this is the kind of comments I was hoping/expecting to get. What is the manual meme, though?
>>3054413
It's straight when I enlarge it.
Most of these photos are overexposed, especially the ones involving the sky. They appear flat and somewhat lifeless because there's very little dynamic range and contrast, with these four (>>3054440, >>3054443, >>3054445, >>3054446) being the only exceptions.
When you're shooting on a sunny day you should aim to underexpose a little bit, especially when something bright like the sky is in the same shot as something darker like a building. You can always brighten shadows in post but you can't get back the highlights that get blown out from overexposure.
For example, underexposing >>3054448 would allow you to bring out the blue in the sky much better while preserving the detail in the clouds, and also give whatever those clay-looking things are more contrast. Also it looks like there's an assload of chromatic aberration going on in the out-of-focus portion of that shot so you should fix that in post.
>>3054456
Manual isn't a meme at all but if you're using it without understanding the stuff I outlined above then you're pretty much memeing. However I think it would be better to understand what you're doing wrong and what you need to do instead of switching to a semi-automatic mode.
Read up more on the exposure triangle and this rule in particular: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunny_16_rule
>>3054566
And maybe it goes without saying, but improving your composition and finding better subjects is more important than any of that stuff I mentioned, but I can't tell you how to do that so you'll just have to figure that out by shooting more.

you need to learn how to use your camera before you use manual mode... use TV and up your shutter speed since apparently you're taking pictures with a hitachi magic wand as a monopod
