Is this birth of new meme?
>>3053743
Ul, without the mirror sitting perfect your af will be fucked, repairing will cost more than replacing the whole body.
Just fyi, sony rate their mirrorless shutters far higher than any dslr, if you do like to use gear for a long time they will probably give you the best option.

I just did! Canon's full frame mirror less is finally here

An a7rii with a metabones?
good choice.
>>3053743
cut hole from viewfinder through the top of camera and enjoy your new mirrorless

Today OP learns about flange distance

I got a pretty good deal for an a7rii + metabones then, £400. only catch is you can't remove the adapter...
>>3053755
>without the mirror sitting perfect your af will be fucked
No, you don't need the main mirror for auto focus.
See picture.
Repairing should be as easy as gluing the mirror back on.
>>3053743
Just convert it to M mount.

This image clearly shows that mirror position is critical for af, thanks for proving my point?!

AF mirror? yes.
Main mirror? no.
In OP's picture only the main mirror is gone.

Just shoot in liveview
>>3053778
is that sawed off?

>Would AF performance with slow lenses improve?
Slow lenses have worse AF performance mainly because phase detection replies on the aperture.
Bigger aperture = bigger phase differences.
Note that most phase detection sensors won't even work at f/8 no matter how much light there is.
But it might improve a bit in low light regardless of the lens.

Yes, the entire mirror box was removed.
Leica M lenses require a shorter flange distance.
Glued back. AF still works accurately (I'm not just a Helios hipster)

That was so intense.

>AF still works accurately
Just as I predicted.
What did I win?
>>3053778
Why?
Coulda just bought an a7rii. Woulda been a lot less work and he would have a much better sensor.
>>3054205
You could just kill yourself. Would be a lot less work than 24/7 sony shilling, and we would have a much better board in return
>>3054205
Because that example was hacked together before the A7 was even made.
>>3054179
My 5D Classic did this, it was a known issue for a while and if yours did it they would fix it for free, did that on both of mine.
Hopefully you didn't use too much glue, the mirror is not needed for AF but for manual focus like on your Helios 44 if it's slightly higher than it should be from too much glue it will not focus accurately, I've done the repair myself back when I had access to all that stuff at Rockwell
