Was looking for a nice home-feel indoor location for a small fashion shoot. Initially thought of booking a hotel room, but friend suggested airbnb. Looked it up and it yielded more affordable locations that suit my needs. Any photographers here used airbnb for shoots before? Would appreciate advice on approaching this, thanks.
>>
Do you think that the house owners would be alright with you doing a photoshoot on their property? Would you get them to sign a contract?
Or are you simply here to advertise AirBNB - the subject of several posts on /p/ in the last few days.
>>
>>3052750

Just ask the hosts if they're alright with it Anon. You can't be this retarded
>>

Just rent it out and do it. Why would you bother asking them if its ok? You're renting it for time period and that's all they should care about.
>>
>>3052765

People are not known in general for being considerate of others or wanting to hear the word No. My guess is that OP made this thread asking for ways to either quietly hide the fact that he's turning a rental property into a studio, for fear of being told by the owners that they don't want him doing it. It's to be expected because airbnb, like Uber, is one of the shadiest and most unregulated businesses ever right now.
>>
I wouldn't ask. You can take pictures anywhere you want.
>>
>>3052808
Right up until the owner asks who the other people are in your room...
Or sees the camera gear...
Or sues your ass for taking commercial photos in their home.
>>
>>3052801
Yea. I don't necessarily want to hide my intentions, just wanted to find a tactful way to phrase them so the owners will at least hear me out. Judging from the airbnb horror stories, I reckon the first reaction would usually be "ugh he's planning an orgy".
>>
>>3052751
Not sure, so asking around to see how others go about it. A contract? I don't think so, I suppose getting the exchange and agreement via email should do?
Airbnb shill? Hah, I wish. I wouldn't have to pussyfoot around procuring nice locations then.
>>
>>3052765

I'm researching on how others approached hosts without scaring them off to increase my chances of success. Read the post again. You can't be this much of a knee-jerk.
>>
Why the fuck would an owner say no to this? Just some photos.
>>
>not porn

Waste of fucking time.
>>
>>3052837
Horror stories of people turning airbnb rentals into drug or sex traffiking places. Airbnb isn't held accountable and without any formal contract this kind of thing is very risky. For all the homeowners know, photo shoot=porn making session all over their beds and couches.
>>
>>3052846
Even if it was a nude shoot, do airbnb owners think I'm not fucking on their beds?
>>
It entirely depends if you're doing it for personal use (aka: amateur) or commercial (money involved: professional). Check the airbnb terms of use.
>>
>>3052848
>This is why most AirBNBs are for singles only
>>
>>3052750
depending on where you are you'll need a property release for commercial use. if it's just for you to have some fun and post to your insta, fuck em just do it
>>
>>3052865
>singles only

>match someone on tinder
>agree to hookup
>rent airbnb for the night so you can fuck

You can get laid outside a relationship, anon. I'm not saying it to be condescending ("hurr durr virgin"), but I'm just pointing it out.
>>
>>3052820
If you want people to trust you just be honest. Send them an e-mail stating exactly what you plan to do and what it's for.

Most people can read and most of the people renting out their property are doing so because they want to make a bit of money.
>>
>>3052801
Sooner or later a story will come out of an Air B&B landlord having hidden cameras in the house to take nude vids of tenants.
>>
>>3052778
well if you're going to publish the pics you could get in trouble.
it seems highly unlikely but it's better to just talk to the guy, say that you're a photographer, say you might take a few pictures in their house... chances are they won't risk calling off the deal because of it
>>
>>3052750
I don't know why anyone hasn't thought of this:

>hey, I'd like to book you place it looks nice. I'm a photographer and would like to shoot some shots there. Maybe I could do some interior shots for your Airbnb page to show it off and we could make a deal.
>hmmm... tell me more.
>????
>profit
>>
>>3053913
>interior shots for your Airbnb page
I seem to recall Airbnb recruiting freelance photographers all over the world for this very purpose some years ago. I don't recall if it was a good deal or not, I don't do interiors.
>>
>>3053922
>I don't do interiors.
Neither do I but with a kit lens and some bracketing I'd give it a shot. Just a thought.

An article from yesterdays' beeb
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-39528479

If you found a nice place with bad photos it could work. Most guests just want to know: How much? How close to the thing I want be at is it?

I checked out the nearest Airbnb to me. Really cheap, spare room in a retired school teachers house. Loads of five star reviews. That's if talking about books and Jesus around the kitchen table with his family and lights out at ten is your thing.

>Airbnb

This kills the inner city.

Please don't use that garbage.
>>

>This kills the inner city.
I don't know what city you live in but paying local people for a bed for the night so they can spend even more money in the city sounds like a good thing.

Hotels are a rip off and the breakfast usually stinks. Hotels are a multi national/global chains. How much of their profits go back into the local economy?

I live in a tourist city. We need every penny to be spent here, it's the pennies spent on the way to the "event" that keep the city alive.
>>
>>3053969

it's a bad thing because it fucks up housing affordability and availability in urban areas. A landlord can easily triple their expected income from a rental by just doing the airbnb thing instead of leasing it out. That means there's little incentive to rent a house for cheap, which means that it either sits empty most of the time (which increases crime), or it puts undue financial strain on residents who intend to stay. Even landlords who don't use airbnb will still be compelled to price their houses higher to cover their property tax from the increased property value of the city, and also because they're not idiots and if the house next door is listing for $1500, they should do the same.
>>
>>3053969
>I don't know what city you live in

Amsterdam.

>local people
- Russian investors

>for the night
- 300+ nights per year

>Hotels are a multi national/global chains. How much of their profits go back into the local economy?
Unlike Airbnb Hotels pay tourist tax.
And also unlike Airbnb they comply with health and safety regulations.

>I live in a tourist city.
Clearly you don't, because nobody can with tens of thousands of drunk Airbnb customers pissing and puking all over the place and making noise till 5AM on a weekday when you need to get up in the morning.

Frankly Airbnb needs to be banned.
And all the investors who bought homes to rent them out through airbnb can fuck off - the city belongs to its inhabitants, not tourists and investors.
>>
>>3053978
The real problem is Airbnb systematically breaks the law.
Like urban planning, fire safety, noise restrictions, taxes, etc.

And they get away with it by claiming it's all the property investors fault, yet they obstruct police when they try to go after the investors.
>>
>>3054001

Yeah, I could see that too. Frankly, I don't live in a big destination city like Amsterdam so I don't have the breadth of experience that you may have. I just know that empty houses are the quickest way to destroy the inner city, which in turn destroys the rest of the city.
>>
>>3054006
>empty houses are the quickest way to destroy the inner city

Nah, houses full of drunk/stoned tourists do it much faster.
The noise and pollution brings the entire street down.

There are even people living in houses with shared bathroom and living room, who now have to deal with complete strangers in their bathroom / living room almost every night because some of the bedrooms gets rented out through airbnb.

Fair points. I live in Liverpool, the local economy is proped up by tourism (Beatles, football etc.)

The most prestigious hotel in the city is a doss house now (The Adelphi). There are so many expensive hotels (yes you too can sleep in John Lennons white room). The Chinese tourists love it and the Hen parties.

Outside of the city centre I just hope some regular guy can earn a few quid with Airbnb.

btw in the UK no one really lives in the city centre. It's just shops and offices and the odd flats for students and hipsters. Would you really want to live above a night club with a kebab house opposite? In the daytime there's a craft barber shop and a law firm.

Welp.... up the wooden hills.
>>
>>3054018

I mean, it's fucking Amsterdam though. Blaming drunk and stoned tourists on Airbnb is pretty shortsighted.
>>
>>3052827

Bullshit you're just socially dysfunctional and didn't like me putting you in your place.

Research my ass, this isn't /sci/.
